Show April 15, 2012 Andy Zarkou MARRIOTT - SLATERVILLE- - Andy Zarkou, 63, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2012 with his loving wife by his side. He was born on March 17, 1949 in Llttlefield. Texas to Chris Zarkou and Maudie Mae Starkey. As a child he lived in many countries while his father served in the Navy. He settled in Roy, Utah in 1963 with his family and attended Roy High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1970. During his tour in Viet Nam he received three purple hearts. He was stationed in Khe Sanh with C Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, also known as the "Walking Dead". Upon his return from Viet Nam, he met and married the love of his life, Cathy Stuck. They were blessed with three sons; Carey, Todd and Shane and 43 wonderful years together. He worked for DDO, HAFB, AMAX Magnesium, and retired from IRS as the Energy Manager in 2011. Family was everything to him and he loved spending time with his sons, daughters-in- law, grandkids and friends. He enjoyed anything electronic and would take it apart just to see how it worked. Since childhood, he was a Ham Radio enthusiast and was the Utah State Director for the Navy Marine Corps Military Auxiliary Radio System. He enjoyed many fun travels and adventures with his best friend (brother) Bert and his party companion, Gwen. He is survived by his father, Chris (Pops) Zarkou; his loving wife, Cathy; sons, Carey (Dedra) Zarkou, Todd Zarkou and Shane (Jess) Zarkou; grandchildren, Colton, Rylee, Destiny, Dakota, Sienna and Layla; sister, Kathy (Will) Cornell; brothers-in-law, Randy (Gay) Stuck and Larry (Theresa) Stuck. He is also survived by his dearest friends/family, Bert and Gwen Parker and his faithful companions, Lady Dog and Sammy Boy. The family would like to thank Access Home Care and Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Andy and his family during his illness with a special thanks to Michelle, Judy, Kathy, Bart, Cami and Dani. The family will meet with friends for a celebration of Andy's life on Sunday, April 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Interment will be Monday, April 23rd at 11 a.m. at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd. where military honors will be accorded. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com Police ID worker who died in Draper DRAPER — Police here have identified Thayne Hansen, 52, as the man who died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while at work. Hansen, of Marriott- Slaterville, was working in a storm drain when a driver pulled into a parking lot near 1150 E. 11950 South in Draper and struck him, said Draper Police Sgt. Pat Evans. Hansen was taken to a local hospital, where he died later that day. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. April 18, 2012 Thayne D. Hansen Thayne Deloy Hansen, 52, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 due to injuries sustained in a tragic automobile-pedestrian accident while working in Draper. Thayne was born August 9, 1959 in Tacoma Washington to Deloy and Rhea Thayne Hansen. He lived in Tacoma, Washington while he grew up, and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1979. He married Deborah Ewing in the Seattle Temple and had three children together; Luke, Trevor, and Melissa (Andy) Holt. They later divorced. Thayne owned Hansen Design Inc. "and worked in the industry for over 30 years. He was skilled in the art of tile and hardwood flooring. His attention to detail and ability to create a beautiful floor was something to be admired and he was very proud of his work. He was skilled at every task and was able to fix or design anything he put his mind to. Many homes have been beautified by his skillful hands. He was a devoted father who loved his children and always had a kind word, a gentle laugh, and counsel to give for those who needed him. He was also a wonderful grandfather. No matter how busy he was, he took the time to listen to others. He made friends wherever he went and put people at ease. The saying enter as guests, leave as friends applied to Thayne. He was kind, loving, and genuine. He had many friends who will miss him dearly. He was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many capacities, but his focus was with the youth. He had most recently served as the Young Mens President. He felt the need and desire to help the young men find their place in life. He fulfilled a full-time LDS mission to Birmingham, Alabama in 1979-1981. His passion was being able to run the trails of Bonneville Shoreline with his running partner Shane Stevens and other friends. He participated in many races and completed the Saint George Marathon in 2011 with a personal record. He was scheduled to run a 50K Ultra Marathon Saturday, April 20 in Saint George. This race has been re-named in Thaynes honor and all runners will be wearing a blue ribbon to also honor him. He married his sweetheart and best friend Paula Okey on December 20, 2008. Together they shared the love of the outdoors. Zion National Park was a favorite where they enjoyed hiking many times. They loved running, biking, and just being together. Thayne brought the light back into Paula's eyes with his great love he showed to her and her kids. He is survived by his wife; children; step-children, Erin (Joel) Cluff, Jeni Okey, Spencer (Danielle) Okey, Summer (Sean) Jensen, Evan (Becky) Okey and McKay Okey; mother and siblings, Scott (Pam) Hansen, Kimberly (Randy) Larsen, Renee (Dennis) Steele, Sheridan (William) Sheffield and Leslie (Mike) Kentrolis. He was preceded in death by his father Deloy Hansen. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11 at the Marriott-Slaterville LDS Ward, 250 North 1500 West with Bishop Jerry Stanger officiating. Friends and family may call at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden on Sunday, April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward building on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
