Show October 9, 2012 (Cont'd) on a farm in Marriott-Slaterville that's been in her mother's family for 160 years. "Personally, I'm an animal nut; I love animals," Bodily says. "I've got three cats, two dogs — we've had rabbits, we've had scorpions. I've got ponies, horses, cattle." She worries about creatures that aren't treated well or who suffer in this bad economy because people can't afford to feed them. "I've just always felt strongly that we're obligated to take care of the animals around us," Bodily says. Choosing a favorite festival among those her group stages is difficult, the coordinator says. "They've each got their own charms." Next up is Sleepy Millcreek Hollow, opening Oct. 23 and running through Oct. 31 in Marriott- Slaterville. This scary outdoor attraction relies on interactive adventures and imagination rather than the blood-splattering gore common at other haunts, she says. "It's a little more cerebral than jumping out at them with a chain saw — but then, I've done that, too," Bodily says with a laugh. Out of the box Bodily says the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire is working to gain nonprofit status so it can get involved in educational activities with schoolchildren. As for future events, Bodily says she might like to try putting together an art show or creating an event anchored around the new steampunk trend. All in all, this sometimes- scarecrow or sometimes-pirate says it can be fun, therapeutic and memorable to get out of your skin a few times a year. "These poor guys who sit on the couch and second-guess the coach — that's not living," she quips. 220 |
