First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill told the house of commons today that one of Germanys pocket battleships had been reporting in the north Atlantic and another in the south Atlantic. Churchill said evidence was conflicting on whether only two German surface vessels of this type were loose as raiders on allied shipping. CITYOF FLINT DECLARED SAFE BERLIN, Nov. 1. Authorized German sources said today that the American steamer City of Flint, in command of a Nazi prize crew, was still continuing safely in its trip southward. These sources said they could not confirm foreign reports that the City of Flint, en route to a German port through the British blockade from Murmansk, Russia, is being escorted by two German destroyers. STATE OF SIEGE THE HAGUE, Netherlands, Nov. 1. Army authorities intend to announce soon a state of siege at some parts of the frontier and in some areas which have been inundated to discourage any German idea of an attack on France through Holland and Belgium, it \was understood today. |
