Glance at War News Gleaned From World Capitals By Associated Press Dec 23 Helsinki Russians retreat in far north; Finns force Russians back on eastern front, fight soviets to standstill on Karelian isthmus. Copenhagen Norwegian dispatches say Russians retreating northward hastily and without fighting. Moscow General K. A. Meretskoff who directed Russian invasion of Finland dismissed, unofficial reports say; Russians claim important successes during Finnish war, put casualties at 1823 dead. London British fighters drive off four German raiders, air ministry reports two British planes, one German fighter downed in western front battle. Paris Daladier tells chamber France will continue aid to Finland; deputies approve war appropriations for first quarter of 1940. Sunday, Dec. 24. Our first snow. This morning I feel much better B. pressure more normal. Dr went to 5 Ward Priestood & S.S. I did up the work and took bath & we went up to Juniors for Turkey dinner. Dr has a cold so we stayed home afternoon. This evening at six we entertained all the grandchildren who live here & Maren & Ralph from S.L.C. Rupert & family & DOrr & family & three or four neighbor children had a gift for each & refreshments. A Very happy time Justin chairman of Programme. |
