Shocking News Horrible is the news from Europe which conveys the information that the preliminary fighting, forecasting another world war, has occurred on the Polish frontier. War guilt should be fixed on those who have started the slaughter which will not end until millions of lives have been sacrificed. There remains a faint possibility that the fighting which has occurred can be restricted, but Great Britain and France are obligated to go to the aid of Poland and if they act then the mighty conflict with all its terrible implications will be on and Europe and perhaps all the world will be drenched in blood. This starts out as a war of extermination for women and children in the cities are to be attacked and everything that can be destroyed will be blasted. No one can foretell the full extent of the destruction to be wrought, civilization itself is in danger of being brought to a low level. No honor is left among those who hold to the extremes of warfare, including the wrecking of large cities and the putting to death of women and children by high explosives, bombs and poison gas. The side that initiates warfare of that kind forces the defenders to turn to the same implements of destruction. Mercy disappears. Chivalry departs and once more we are barbarians.
