Show British Guns Down Nazi Raiding Plane LONDON, Thursday, Nov. 23 A German plane was shot down at sea along the English east coast Wednesday night after day long air battles near the Thames estuary and a bombing and machine gunning raid on the Shetland islands by six nazi planes. The German ship fell victim to antiaircraft fire after it had fought a machine gun duel with swift British pursuit planes. It was the third nazi plane brought down off the eastern coast in three days. Another, a German Henkel bomber, was shot down off the French coast. Germans Boast Of Sea War, Warn Britain BERLIN, Nov. 22 Germans Wednesday challenged a British declaration that the nazi submarine weapon had been foiled and served notice that Britains unrestricted blockade of German exports would bring swift retaliation. D N B, official news agency, asserted that 11 commercial ships, eight of them British, had failed to reach British ports during the two weeks since Britains first lord of the admiralty, Winston Churchill, on November 8 proclaimed the undersea raiders beaten. Three English fish cutters and the 5000 ton freighter Arlington Court have been torpedoed by German submarines, the agency said, and three others attacked, two in the Atlantic and one off Iceland. D N B failed to name the eighth British ship or the non British craft involved. In the air raid Wednesday, an official announcement said, German planes attacked English navy units near the Shetland islands, setting fire to a British flying boat resting in the water. Authorized sources described Britains announcement Tuesday of an intensified blockade against Germany as a clumsy attempt to give the cloak of morality to a new form of piracy whereby neutral shipping will be endangered and vital neutral interests hit.
