Show April 13, 2012 Motorcyclist dies in crash with turning automobile By MICHAEL MCFALL Standard-Examiner staff mmcfall@standard.net MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — A 50-year-old man died after his motorcycle struck a car Friday afternoon. The man, who was not immediately identified, was driving west on 12th Street, and a woman in her mid-50s was driving east in a bronze Ford Focus, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther. The man was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in criti cal condition and was pronounced dead on arrival. The sheriff's office will notify his family before releas- leasing his name. According to his driver's license, the man lived in Salt Lake City, Lowther said. A woman who was helping install equipment at a new 7-Eleven at the intersection heard the crash and ran outside. She said the man was in such bad shape that he "looked like he was going to die right there." The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet. As the weather gets warmer, more and more motorcycles will be on the road, Lowther said. His advice? Everyone who is about to turn or change lanes needs to look out for motorcyclists. In particular, the sheriff's office has seen more motorcycle accidents recently that involved someone trying to make a left turn, Lowther said. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Sheriff's office IDs fatal crash victim MARRIOTT- SLATERVILLE — The Weber County Sheriff's Office identified the motorcyclist who died Friday afternoon as Jeffery Burge of Salt Lake City. Burge, 50, crashed into a car that had turned left in front of him at the intersection of 1200 West and 12th Street. He was pronounced dead at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden a short time later. The driver of the car was cited for failure to yield the right of way, said Lt. Mark Lowther. 45 |
