It was adjourned as there was no further business. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held May 23, 2012, at the Central Weber Sewer Improvement District, ending the five-year $128 million project which brought the facility up to code and expanded the wastewater treatment plant at 2618 West Pioneer Road. The Mayor and all councilmen were invited to attend. Councilman Delbert Hodson, at the request of Rob Smout, attended a recent Weber County Farm Bureau meeting. They are beginning to clean the debris out of the Weber River. Weber Basin wants to enlarge the Willard Canal and cement it, which would increase the capacity to carry twice the amount of water. This would impact some of the roadways. It would be an eight year project, and should help eliminate flooding problems in the western part of the county. Councilman Kim Slater will talk to Steve Slater, Secretary of the South Slaterville Irrigation Company, in hopes of changing water turns to have the City turn follow Virgil Howe on that branch of the ditch. This would have the water end up in the pond as it should. An article in the Standard Examiner on May 16, 2012, announced the placement of bridges by West Haven and Marriott-Slaterville over the Weber River which connect a new trail segment. The paved trail begins just west of 1-15 and goes past 1900 West, and is scheduled to be opened about the end of June. Summer tennis lessons for children and adults are again available at the Harrisville Tennis Courts, starting June 4, 2012. Playing twice a week for two months is $30 per family (2 or more children, with accompanying parent) for children 5-11, and $25 for adults (2 or more), 12 and over. Registration closed May 26,2012. The Pioneer Post announced the dates of the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire held in our community. It was held May 4-6,11-13,17-20, and ran on those days from 10:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m., except Sundays, when it closed at 6:30 p.m. Another Community Gardening Day was held on Saturday, May 19, 2012, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the community gardens behind the city office. Mulch was spread by volunteers. A letter from the Weber County Animal Services received this month thanked the city for announcing the rabies clinics held this spring. Bits and Pieces Taysley Jo Surrage, daughter of Shane and Karrie Surrage, was born on May 6, 2012. Cooper Espinoza, son of Angie and Gusman Espinoza, was bom on May 22, 2012. Congratulations go to Daniel T. Bell, Kadee Christofferson, Kathryn Jae Dimick, Logan George, Dallin Holley, and McKay Okey who graduated from Fremont High School. Jamie Nichole Aiken graduated from Roy High School. Mayor Keith Butler congratulated city staff members Becky Burt and Trent Meyerhoffer for their recent participation in a run to benefit cancer research. Sherry Moms was one of the recipients of the 2012 Apple for the Teacher Award during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7-11, 2012. This has been a yearly award for her since the inception of the program. Mrs. Morris retired this year after 27 years in the Weber School District. 138 |
