Show Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History June 2012 A time to look forward to-- The activities at the July 4 Freedom Celebration were announced in the June 2012 issue of The Pioneer Post. Activities begin on July 3, 2012, with the Thirteenth Annual Golf Tournament. A 5K Run/Walk begins on July 4, at the Marriott Park, at 7:00 a.m. Breakfasts sponsored by the LDS Wards will be held at the Marriott Park and LDS Church Bowery, at 8:00 a.m. Line-up for the parade is on 700 South at 10:00 a.m., with the parade starting at 10:30 am. and continuing to the Marriott Park. Hamburgers, hot dogs, games, giant slide, candy cannon, contests and prizes begin at 11:00 am. at the Marriott Park. It's always fun-see you there. An important staff change occurred on June 4, 2012. Ken Martin resigned as the City Inspector, and Trent Meyerhoffer was named City Inspector, in addition to his current responsibilities. Public hearings on budgets were held at the City Council Meeting held on June 21, 2012. The first hearing concerned Resolution 2012-1 adopting FY 2012-13 Final Budget for the Pioneer Special District. City Administrator Bill Morris said the cost of the secondary water system operation increased as a result of rebuilding the pumps at Spencer Farms. Also, Trent Meyerhoffer said that the chemical used has doubled in cost. The increased cost was due to rebuilding the pumps. Mr. Morris advised that next year the city would like to install a moss collector similar to the one at Quail Meadows. No public comment was offered. The public hearing was closed and the public meeting was opened. Resolution 2012-1 was passed unanimously. A public hearing was opened on Resolution 2012-J adopting FY 2011-12 amended city budget. No public comment was given. The public hearing was closed and at the ensuing public meeting Resolution 2012-J was passed unanimously. The public hearing on Resolution 2012-K adopting FY 2012-13 final city budget was opened and public comment was requested. None was given, and the public hearing was closed and the public meeting reopened. Mr. Morris reviewed the budget and responded to questions from the council. He emphasized that no property tax has been assessed for 13 years. Resolution 2012-K was passed unanimously. President Dennis Ilium thanked Mayor Keith Butler and the staff for all their hard work on the budget matters. Resolution 2012-L adopting an interlocal agreement with Weber County for animal control services was discussed. The agreement has been in place for several years, and the renewal approves approximately $8,000 for animal services. It is not for the animal shelter which is under a separate agreement. The resolution was adopted unanimously. Resolution 2012-M adopting an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Statement which is required to be eligible for certain grants and federal funds. After review of the statement, the resolution passed unanimously. Business licenses were approved for: Trail Ridge Off Roads, LLC, 785 West 12th Street, 4x4 modifications. A.D.A. Compliance Consultants, 1045 South 1200 West, #10, consultants. The Craze Functional Fitness, 865 West 12th # A-B, Fitness Training Center No council meeting will be held in July. Mayor Butler advised that the WACOG annua! meeting will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012, and he needs to know who will be attending at least one week prior to the meeting. Councilman Delbert Hodson reported that a problem with thistle exists on IRS property. Councilman Scott VanLeeuwen said two new fire trucks have been received by the Weber County Fire District. 140 |
