Show June 19, 2012 Three injured in 2-car crash SCOTT SCHWEBKE/Standard-Examiner Weber County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Brent Butler glances toward a Volkswagen Jetta that overturned in a ditch following a two- vehicle accident on Monday. Three people sustained minor injuries. One of the vehicles ended up upside down in a ditch By SCOTT SCHWEBKE Standard-Examiner staff sschwebke@standard.net WEST HAVEN — Three people were injured Monday in a two-car crash that left one vehicle upside- down in a ditch. The accident happened about 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of 3500 West and 3300 South. A 70-year-old man from Roy, driving a blue Mazda, reported he was traveling south on 3500 West, stopped at a stop sign and then moved into the intersection, where his car was struck by a red Volkswagen Jetta traveling west on 3300 South, said Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Brent Butler. The driver of the Mazda and two 19-year-old women from Alaska in the Jetta suffered minor injuries. The women had cuts and scrapes, and the man complained of chest pain, probably caused by a seatbelt, Butler said. It's unknown if the women were also wearing seat- 200 belts, he said. All of the individuals were taken by ambulance to an area hospital. The names of those involved in the crash were not immediately available. The driver of the Mazda will be cited for failing to yield the right of way, Butler said. Both vehicles sustained heavy damages. The sheriff's office provided traffic control at the scene of the accident. The Roy Fire Department also responded to the crash. |
