Show Sunday, Jan. 15. Palo Alto. Taylor, Avon, David Dr & I went to Sunday School. Not a very prosperous looking group but seemed very sincere in their church work. Mary had company for a while Mrs Jane T. Peery Taylors mother had dinner with us. Taylor had a severe head ache so retired early. Avon, Mary, Dr & I went to see Sweet Hearts. Not so good. Mary is quite tired & has not felt so good so she retired early. Also the rest of us. Monday, Jan. 16. Have been rather sick and dizzy so had a good rest & sleep this afternoon. The boat we expected to sail on was held up in some way so we will sail from Oakland tomorrow on the Trondanger. We all feel better today and have enjoyed the day visiting with Mary and Avon. They are very dear girls and we are all so happy to be togather. This is the most restful place I have ever seen, birds, flowers, wonderful trees etc. Retire rather early. Tuesday, Jan. 17. Drove into San Francisco early had lunch at Magic Cubbord after which we met Taylor and drove over to Oakland were we found our boat an immense fruit freighter over 400 ft long. Our state room is ideal every convenience, large room twin beds nice bath plenty drawer space and cloths closet etc. cross ventilation a corner room with two windows. The girls & Taylor stayed on the boat with us until Avon had to get her train home. Wednesday, Jan. 18. Trondanger. All fine this A.M. The boar is very steady and we slept well. Havent been at all seasick. Took Mother Sills pills for sea sickness. The meals are excellent and so far there are only two other couples on board as passanger six other people will get on at Los Angeles. Weather grand and food very good. The Trondanger is 550 long and 8700 tons of cargo is carried consisting of dried && fresh fruit also tons of ceder logs. It is one of many Norweigan Boats. There are only 12 passengers. We anticipate a real pleasure trip. |
