Show Friday, Oct. 6. Have had a buisy morning. Prepared Dr lunch. I attended a luncheon at Mrs E.O. Wattis. Listened to 110 L.D.S. Conference. Pres. Grant and Counselor Rubin Clark gave masterful talks on the War Conditions. Certainly favor Peace. Sylvester Q. Cannon was made a member of the Twelve in Apostle Ballards place. He having died recently. 350 Voice Choir Brings Music to L.D.S. Conclave. SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 9 Sacred music, played on the mammoth tabernacle organ and sung by the 350 voice Latter day Saints choir, featured the two concluding sessions of the churchs 110th semi annual conference here Sunday. Alexander Schreiner was organist at the morning session, and Dr. Frank W. Asper in the afternoon. The choir, which appeared on both occasions, was directed by J. Spencer Cornwall. Mormon Faithf Tabernacle At Conference SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 9. More people than the vast auditorium could accommodate crowded the Latter day Saints tabernacle and thronged its entrance ways Sunday night to attend a meeting of the Deseret Sunday school union, final event of the churchs semi annual conference. Music and singing, some by the congregation and some by the L. D. S. male chorus and a special choir, dominated the program. George D. Pyper, Sunday school general superintendent, announced that almost a half of the church membership was now enrolled in Sunday schools, the classes having gained 32,245 new members during the past year for a total enrollment of more than 348,000. Miss Edith Ryberg, principal of the Hamilton school, and Dr. William M. McKay, acting commissioner of the state board of health, were sustained as new board members of the Sunday school union. The meeting concluded with a testimonial by Heber J. Grant, president of the church. I know Jesus Christ is the savior of mankind, he said. I have borne this same testimony with all the fervor I possess for the past 37 years, and there is scarcely a stake in which I have not done this. He asked his audience to guard against their own errors and to remember that they will not be held responsible for those of others. |
