Show Monday, Nov. 27. Have shopped most of the day to get gifts for Thair and family as they must be sent now to Panama to arrive for Xmas. HELSINKI Finland tells Russia no Finnish guns killed or wounded red army troops on Karelian isthmus border; claims frontier guard heard firing on Russian side; willing to negotiate demand for removal of troops from border. MOSCOW Russian workers and troops adopt resolutions calling for strictest measures against Finns. PARIS Daladier to give account of war leadership at French parliament session Thursday; French report local engagement on western front east of Moselle river. STOCKHOLM Sweden hands German charge d affaires protest against mine laying in shipping lanes. Nov 30 By Associated Press MOSCOW Fresh reports of border clashes add fuel to Russian campaign against Finland; Russia discards nonaggression pact with Finns. HELSINKI Finns stiffen resistance to Russia, deny reported border clashes, assert anything may happen in most critical situation. LONDON Prime Minister Chamberlain tells war Parliament Britain plans to impose no vindictive peace upon Germany; Britain proclaims allied blockade on German exports effective Monday; naval authorities profess ignorance of German claim heavy cruiser torpedoed in North sea. BERLIN High command announces same submarine commander who destroyed battleship Royal Oak sent British cruiser to bottom. PARIS Two German freighters captured by French warships, high command says; report local artillery activity on western front. AMSTERDAMThe Netherlands will carry on sea trade despite allied blockade restrictions. LONDON French and British say from 35 to 45 German submarines sunk since wars start. Britain Denies Vindictive Aims in War Late Bulletins PARIS, Nov. 29.The cabinet, meeting with President Lebrun today, unanimously approved a project believed to be a request for extension of decree powers. Premier Daladier will submit the matter to parliament at its first wartime session tomorrow. The cabinet has been ruling by decree powers which expire tomorrow. BRUSSEIA Nov. 29. The newspaper Derniere Heure reported today that 80,000 members of the German labor corps had been shifted from the Belgian frontier after completing work on an extension of the Westwall fortifications. Stalins statement, issued by the official Tass news agency, was a denial of French reports that on August 19th he had expounded the idea that the war should last as long as possible so the belligerents would become exhausted. This report is a lie, Stalin said. I am certainly not in a position to know in which particular cafe Chantant (a cafe where political songs are improvised) the lie was fabricated. But however much the gentlemen of Havas (French) agency may lie they cannot deny that: It was not Germany who attacked France and England but France and England who attacked Germany, assuming responsibility for the present war. After the outbreak of hostilities Germany addressed France and England with peace proposals while the Soviet union openly supported Germanys peace proposals because it believed and continues to believe that the earliest termination of the war would fundamentally alleviate the position of all countries and nations. The ruling circles of England and France rudely declined both Germanys peace proposals and attempts of the Soviet Union to attain the earliest termination of the war. Such are the facts. What can the chantant politicians oppose to these facts? |
