PARIS, Dec. 10 French military sources said Sunday an area of more than 20,500,000 square yards on the western front has been covered recently with barbed wire entanglements. The new snares, strung over an area equivalent to a 2500 mile belt 12 feet wide, required 65,000 tons of wire and 4,000,000 posts. Entanglements between the Maginot line and the just completed second defense line were included in the project. In building new fortifications since the war started, the allies have removed 5,850,000 cubic yards of dirt, the French said. Approximately 910,000 cubic yards of concrete have been used.
