Show The senior center has the DUP Memorial Library, with books, a few videos, and other resources that may be borrowed at no cost. There are four public computers you can use to access the Internet or do homework. The City Hall Park, (Clifford and Elizabeth Blair Park) behind the Senior Center is for public use. As noted, it has a bowery, playground and municipal gardens. The bowery can be reserved for a half-day for $25.00. The gardens are maintained by community gardener volunteers, and are available for rent for receptions and similar activities for $200 for residents, $400 for non-residents. What great opportunities! Flu vaccinations were offered at the senior center on October 4, 2011, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., first come, first-serve. Trunk-or-Treat was held on Monday, October 31, 2011, at the Slaterville Park. Set-up started at 5:30 p.m. and treats started at 6:00 p.m. sharp. It was a huge success where everything went very well. It has become one of the largest Halloween events in Weber County. This year, the event had a sponsor, Jay Carnahan at State Farm Insurance. The Weber County Fire District participated again this year. DeAnn Hufstetler was in charge again. They were able to arrange for an "in" way and a separate "out" way which simplified the traffic flow within the park, and helped make it safer. No one was allowed to start on the trunk route for candy until the fire engine signalled the start at 6:00 p.m. This made it more fair for all children, and avoided multiple trips through. Chili, hot dogs, donuts, hot chocolate, and homemade root beer were available. By placing a donation can at the serving table, the city received about $500.00 in donations. The event cost the city about $500.00. Prizes were awarded to Daniel and Mary Krum, Jadie Aikens, and Kaylee Dirsh for the best costumes. Best Animal Costume: Duke the dog Smith. Best Trunks: Kenny Pronschinske and Sandra Dyer. Best Pumpkin went to Michelle Perry. DeAnn was aided by husband Rod, Sherry and Dave Wadman, Becky Burt, Randy and Barbara Phipps, Glen and Shauna Meyerhoffer, Jeremy Pattillo, Les Syme, Ron Kendall, Kelly Slater, Pam Slater, Al and Ramona Farr, Dennis Ilium and Heidi Hirschi, and many others who volunteered and served. The volunteer Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) Christmas Party was held on December 9, 2011, at the Senior Center, under the direction of Dixie Little. About 40 people attended, and enjoyed the dinner catered by Maddox. Mrs. Little gave special thanks to all the trained CERT who put into practice their skills during the spring flooding. She commended the many volunteers who helped mitigate the serious problems faced by our city at that time. Christmas decorations and door prizes were added attractions for those in attendance. A Breakfast with Santa was held on Saturday, December 10, 2011, from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. at the Senior Center. Cost was $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 12 and under. About 150 people enjoyed a breakfast of pancakes, ham, eggs, cereal, donuts, orange and apple juice, and hot chocolate with marshmallows. Children had fun with a Christmas tree craft. The highlight of the morning was when Santa came for a visit and presented the children with treats. The successful affair was under the direction of Shauna Meyerhoffer with helper elves, Stacee and Glen Meyerhoffer, Rod and DeAnn Hufstetler, Joanne Louth, Brad and Pam Slater, McKell Coleman, Amber Taylor and Ashley Bell. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., on December 5, 2011, a most enjoyable Christmas Party for the Council, Planning Commission, staff and volunteers and partners was held. It featured a Maddox catered roast beef dinner in the Senior Center. Roast beef, baked potatoes, gravy, tossed salad, rolls, butter and honey were served. Brownies and other colorful desserts were a hit. The Christmas tree and table decorations added to the festive mood, with visiting and socializing. Mayor Butler thanked the staff for their work on the party. Thanks especially go to Becky Burt, Trent Meyerhoffer, and Ken Martin. 23 |
