Show May 20, 2011 to the Fort, if you come from downtown." The scenery more than makes up for the drive, Carter said, with the trees and the snow-covered mountains and, more importantly, no flooding "It might get a little cool at night, that will feel good," Carter said. The Fort Buenaventura Easter Rendezvous was postponed until Father's Day weekend, June 17-19. Weddings and camping trips by local Scout troops have also been moved to a new location or rescheduled. "We've accomodated everyone we've put out, for the most part," Carter said. The events at Fort Buenaventura are not the only ones that had to find a new home at the last minute. "We had to change sites two weeks before we opened, which was kind of scary," said Sue Bodily, executive director of the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire. The Faire is entering its final weekend at its new location, 1700 W 1350 South in Marriott-Slaterville, near the 12th Street exit off of Interstate 15. Organizers had already begun to set up stages and benches in their usual location when a levee broke in western Weber County. Bodily said about 40 percent of their equipment is now under water. Marriott-Slaterville worked to find a new venue for the annual event, and Bodily said the location has worked out great for the Faire. Because most of the vendors and performers are mobile, the festival has all of the trappings of previous years. The only difference is that all of the booths and offerings are not as spread out as they have been in years past. "I think it was a left-handed blessing," Bodily said, the proximity giving the Faire a cozier feeling. Bodily said she is proud of what organizers and staff managed to accomplish in a short time. "It's interesting — when you are facing complete disaster, you have to think on your feet," Bodily said. "It's come together really, really well collectively. My whole group is very pleased." 59 |
