They have been reopened, and the water will rise at our location in about 12 to 14 hours. Mr. Morris said Plain City residents have complained that we should raise Pioneer Road at their border to keep water from flooding their area. President Dennis Ilium felt people do not understand flood dynamics and that when a dike is placed in one area, it will just flood another area. Milk on one side of his bowl of Cheerios seems to get to the other side of the bowl no matter how the Cheerios are placed. Councilman Kim Slater said the Marriott-Slaterville L.D.S. Third Ward has helped the Tubbs home on 2700 North that flooded. He hoped that the city might participate in paying for flood damage, but the Mayor was concerned about setting precedent for paying for such damage. It was agreed to not make any contribution for the present. Mayor Butler expressed thanks to everyone for their help with the flooding which has occurred. The community united and there were lots of volunteers. He commended Mr. Slater for his personal service in helping those with flooding issues in his district. Starting Monday, June 20, 2011, Staker-Parsons roto-milled two inches of asphalt off the south side of 400 North , in order to replace the portion which failed the compaction test last fall. The following day the contractor put down the new asphalt to be properly compacted. Thursday, June 23, the contractor chip- sealed trie entire road; then it will be fog sealed and then painted. Landscaping is still underway. The county is still repairing potholes. Granite Construction was awarded the bid to resurface 1200 West between 12** and 17*> Streets. Mayor Butler was thanked for the impressive way he handles the budget. Staff was also thanked for their efforts and hardwork with the flooding, budget and the many other things going on this year. Weeds are ever with us. Councilman Delbert Hodson was thanked for removing Dyer's Wode and Scotch Thistle along roads where he could. President Ilium has asked that weeds along the roads be mowed, so he may be able to spray herbicide. The Senior Heaalth Connection newsletter for July was given out containing the warning about too much sun exposure, the proper use of sunscreen, cover-up with clothing, and the danger of skin cancer. Information was also contained about recognizing skin cancer, and changes in the skin. It also announced a seminar on July 8, 2011, at the McKay Dee Hospital, beginning at 2:30 p.m., with Alice Hirai, RN, speaking about her experiences in the camps where Japanese-Americans were forced to move after Pearl Harbor. Mrs. Hirai visits the Senior Center regularly to take blood pressures. She is a former resident of Marriott-Slaterville City. Bits and Pieces Maura Cae Wayment, born June 1, 2011, is the daughter of Kory Meibos Wayment and Whitney Cay Christopher Wayment. Rawlins K. Cook, son of Preston K. and Carli Sue Hollis Cook, was born on June 4, 2011. Hinckley Bart Spencer, son of Todd and Elizabeth Spencer, was born on June 20, 2011. Fawn Bybee Slater, age 93, passed away on June 20, 2011. Shannon Marie Reed Croft, died on June 30, 2011, at the age of 68. 166 |
