Show The Pioneer Post Volume XIII Issue 12 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter December 2011 1570 West 400 North - Phone 801-627-1919 CHRISTMAS MESSAGE by Kim Slater, City Council We live in an exceptional city. Marriott-Slaterville sits at the crossroads of some of the most beautiful places in the world where high mountains, pristine lakes, and barren deserts are within a short drive. We have neighbors who care and look out for one another. Our community has a small town feel with open farms and a good housing mix. City leaders, staff, and volunteers do an exceptional job looking out for the interests of our community and planning for the future. Our economy does well as several new businesses will shortly be opening and there is no city property tax. This community is diverse with many nationalities and ethnicities along with diverse political and religious views. We have farmers, electricians, plumbers, dentists, teachers, nurses, hair dressers, nail technicians, and almost any other professional or occupation you can think of. We have had some difficult times this year. We lost some really good residents who passed away. Other lost their jobs or homes in these hard times. The spring floods never seemed to end and were difficult. However, despite these challenges, people are upbeat and look forward to a better future. In the flooding, people rallied together and gave 360 hours of volunteer service to help neighbors. Thank you for making this city exceptional. I wish you a pleasant holiday and a healthy, prosperous new year. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA Santa will visit Marriott-Slaterville City on Saturday, December 10, 2011, from 9:00 — 11:00 AM at the Senior Center, 1570 West 400 North. Flooding is a fact of life in the city and post- Katrina regulations prohibit most development in flood prone areas. After the 2011 floods, some have expressed interest in learning options for managing flood prone land. To help, the city will host an informational meeting with Jeff Williams from the Natural Resource Conservation Service on Wednesday, January 18,2012, at 6:00 PM. This meeting will provide information on conservation programs available to property owners in flood prone area or anyone else that may be conservation minded.
