Show Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History June 2011 Fun topped the interest in the June issue of The Pioneer Post. An evening of "Music at the Park," washeld on June 25, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. Featured were Desiree Stephens, Emily Jenson, and Savannah, Annah, and Ezrah Brandley. The July 4* Freedom Celebration plans were announced. The Twelfth Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, July 1, at the Ben Lomond Golf Course, between 4 and 7 p.m. The cost is $15, including green fees. Register with Danny Brown. On Monday, July 4*», a 5K Run/Walk will be held, under the direction of Bob Hirschi. The LDS Wards will sponsor breakfasts at both the Marriott Park and the L.D.S.Church Bowery at 8:00 a.m. Line up at 10:00 a.m. on 700 south for the parade which will go from 700 South along 1200 West to the Marriott Park, beginning at 10:30 am. Lunch, hamburgers and hot dogs, and activities will begin at 11.00 a.m. at the Marriott Park. There will be games, a giant slide, candy cannons, contests, and prizes, and lots of fun. Gardening tips were given in The Pioneer Post. Unusually wet and cool weather has impacted gardening, as well as planting crops. Spring arrived late this year but there is still time to plant vegetables, fruits, flowers, shrubs and trees. Keep aphids, grubs, snails, slugs, and broadleaf weeds under control (if you can). Build up your soil with compost, peat moss, and proper fertilization. Know how to conserve water, although this year's supply is ample. The City Council Meeting held on June 16, 2011, was a busy one, as fiscal matters and budgets were considered. Public hearings were held on this date before Resolutions were voted on by the Council. The first concerned Resolution 2011-G for the final budget for the Pioneer Special Service District. The budget has not changed much over last year. The Hoth Apartments and Townhouses are now connected to the Special District. No public comment was given. The council approved Resolution 2011-G unanimously. No public comment was offered on Resolution 2011-H adopting the FY 2010-11 amended city budget. There were no questions from the council. Resolution 2011 -H was approved unanimously by the council. Mr. Morris presented Resolution 2011-1 to adopt the FY 2011-12 final city budget, and noted a minor change The city's health insurance carrier recently increased the premium by $1,300, which required the modification in the budget for this change. No public comment was offered. After various questions from the council, Resolution 2011-1 was approved by the council by unanimous vote. Resolution 2011-F, an Interlocal Agreement with Weber County for Elections was presented by Mr. Morris. The city is considering contracting with Weber County for election services, which would provide electronic voting machines by the county. The city will still need to handle some of the supplies, may handle the election judges, and will be responsible to handle election disputes. Resolution 2011-F was passed unanimously. Business licenses were approved for the following businesses, all in compliance with zoning: Simply Posh Dance Studio, 456 South 2075 West, Dance Studio for little children, in the home. Luv Your Lashes, 1170 South 2000 Wet, False Eyelashes, a home business. Elevate Learning, 875 West 1200 South, Tutoring Service, to be run from the Hi-Tech Storage Units at that address. Because of flooding, Mayor Keith Butler declared a state of emergency in the city to make way for federal funds, and as requested by the county. Governor Herbert visited and toured the city, speaking with local residents affected by flooding. Councilman Scott Van Leeuwen received a call from Mr. Tobias who said the river has gone down. Lt. Bell said both the Pineview Dam and Causey Dam outlets were shut off for a short 165 |
