Show Marriott-Slaterville History October 2011 Councilman Scott VanLeeuwen requested that an article be printed in the city newsletter, regarding the possibility of creating a cemetery district to see what kind of feedback the city gets from residents. Councilman Delbert Hodson wants the city to advertise this as much as possible so the citizens are aware that if the cemetery district is formed there will be a property tax. The property tax initially may be $35-65 per year. The council will consider the possibility of a resolution at its next meeting. Mr. Morris said that FEMA has been in Weber County all month looking at the flood damage. They will only pay for damage on public owned facilities, not private property. The city may receive about $40,000 from FEMA to help cover the cost of the spring flooding this year. Striping on roads has been completed. Councilman Kim Slater suggested that the city contact our state representative about getting UDOT to paint the striping for the 12* Street off ramps for 1-15. He noted that the city's new entryway signs on 400 North at 1200 West look very nice; also that there are potholes which need to be filled before the arrival of cold weather. Councilman Rob Smout said a Mill Creek Subdivision resident contacted him before the meeting, telling him several grinder pumps have gone out in the subdivision. Staff said the city sponsored a meeting with the residents and the grinder pump company about pump maintenance. In most instances, pump failures have been due to residents flushing items down the toilets that they should not. Landscaping at the entrance of Mill Creek Subdivision was done by the special district a few weeks ago and the grass should be growing soon. The Combe Tree Farm will be donating about 15 trees. Residents of both the Mill Creek and Spencer Farms Subdivisions have had problems with moss in the irrigation system this year. Staff discovered that the existing moss filter system had broken down, causing the problem. The moss filter system has been maintained by the developer under the contract. Trent Meyerhoffer called the developer, and they found a shovel had lodged in the filter system, keeping it from functioning. This was repaired and the filter system is now operational. Mr. Hodson suggested moving the fall clean-up to another weekend, to avoid conflict with the deer hunt. Bits and Pieces Paul Leon Barrow, 79, died October 3, 2011. Darrell Geary Mecham, age 87, died on October 11, 2011. Claunda "Connie" Stanger Brown, age 91, died October 25, 2011. Joe Deru had an exhibit of "Windfall Woods," at the Eccles Community Art Center from October 7 through 29, 2011. The George E. Wahlen Veterans Home fun run and chili cook-off took place on October 8, 2011, beginning at 10:00 a.m. It was sponsored by the First United Methodist Church, and proceeds go to the Veteran's Home. Val Holley, former resident, was the speaker at the Weber State University Stewart Library, on October 18, 2011, from 7 to 8 p.m. He discussed the history of Ogden, and his latest work, 25th Street Confidential: Drama, Decadence and Dissipation Along Ogden's Rowdiest Road. A reception was held from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the lecture. "Something lurks in Sleepy Millcreek Hollow," described the haunted attraction held at a new location, Green Barn Gardens, in Marriott-Slaterville. It was open October 20-22, and 27-29, 2011.
