Show Marriott-Slaterville History September 2011 Paul Hodson, Chair of the Plain City Cemetery District, explained about their cemetery district. It is run separately from the city. Originally formed many years ago under the Weber County Commission, it consists of about four acres, and is expanding to another four acres, with one acre being now developed. He explained the history and how things have changed over time. Initially, they let each person buy 8 plots; now the maximum is four plots, because so many empty plots exist. Maintenance is paid by a property tax, currently about $12.00 per year on a home valued at $250,000. Rules exist for headstones, flowers, graves, etc. Plots now are sold for $300.00 each for the first two; the extra two plots are $450.00 each. Those living out of the district pay $700.00 for the first 2, the extra plots are $1,000-$1,200. When asked about problems they have, Mr. Hodson listed people riding horses in the cemetery, vacant plots, and rules on flowers. They have been fortunate not to have had vandalism to date. Mr. Hodson was thanked for his presentation. The Council asked staff to gather additional information. Resolution 2011-K cancelling the 2011 municipal election was discussed. It will take effect after September 22, 2011, if no one has filed as a write-in candidate. The resolution was adopted by unanimous vote. Trunk-or-Treat will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011, at the Slaterville Park. Set-up starts at 5:30 p.m. and treats start at 6:00 p.m. sharp. Hot dogs, donuts, and hot chocolate will be available. There will be prizes for the best carved pumpkin, costume and car decoration. DeAnn Hufstetler will again be in charge. Lt. Matt Bell is being transferred to Washington Terrace, and Mervin Taylor will be the new Lieutenant assigned to our city. The sheriff contract may now be based on population. Lt. Bell was thanked for his service. Councilman Kim Slater said that to date there has been no West Nile virus reported in the county. Councilman Delbert Hodson requested the park on 17* Street be mowed again. The Council was updated on new development in the city, including the 7-Eleven which will replace the used car lot on 12* and 1200 West, and the new restaurants near 400 North and S.R. 126. Fall Clean-up is scheduled for October 21-23, with a dumpster located at both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks. All garbage should be completely inside the dumpster, not on the ground. This is a complimentary service, so be considerate of others and do not monopolize the dumpster. Waste Management requests no tires or hazardous material be dumped. The wet spring has brought an abundance of weeds (and we always have too many). Trim around fire hydrants so they are visible. Trim down weeds in your neighborhood. Eradicate invasive weeds such as poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, ragweed, puncture weed, Scottish thistle, morning glory (Bind Weed) Dyer's Woad, Phragmites and other noxious vegetation. The September 2011 Senior Health Connection Newsletter, gave information about flu vaccine, what is available, and why it is so important to seniors.
