The Storye of the Faire that Almost Wasn't Twas a fortnight ago that a river did overflow its banks. Spring had barely shaken the folk of Marriott-Slatervillage from chill Winter's cruel grasp and all the town was gladsome and Merry until the river did run wilde., . Now in this same Village, there were three who had made careful plans for a Faire to be celebrated in the merrye month of May, on the farm of Goodwyfe Tippetts, a kindly lady of many kin and generous heart. Much enjoyment was derived every year from the Faire, visitors came from faraway lands to see the diverse entertainments and enjoy delicious food. There were to be the Finest Knights in all the land, Magicians of great renown, fine music and dancing and even a visit from the Queen and her court! It was then, that Mistress Nature did choose to have her way with the Land, and rose the waters, thus flooding the Goodwyfes farm. Many were dismayed by the rushing waters and harm they did create, and did recall the wise words of a governor of the land from long ago, 'tis a hell of a way to run a deserts state!' Alas, it seemed that the Faire would not come to pass, as all had hoped. However, the three who had planned the Faire were not easily daunted. These three were; Sorche, a dragon who most usually was seen in human form, save for her tail, Lady Kate, the Duchess of Chaos, and Sir Edgar 'the Horrible', who was noted for his cleverness and indeed his horribly silly attire at Faire. Sorche, being a dragon and displaying a love of the occasional conflagration of dead timber, was not at all fond of all the water, and with sudden thought did find and speak with Esquire William of Morris, who managed the town and was deemed exceedingly wise. His help and thought were enlisted. As this was transpiring, Lady Kate and Sir Edgar and many Faire folk did quickly find ways to save much Faire property which was floating on Goodwyfe Tippetts farm. Twas in a very short time, that Squire William returned to the dragon with news of a kindly and generous Duke, who had land untouched by the raging waters and would be willing to allow the Faire to commence upon his lands. Sorche sought out the Duke, Sir Wilbert by name, and a spoken agreement was made to use his land for Faire purpose. By appropriate chance, Duke Wilbert was Dutch, and everyone knows how clever the Dutch are, at managing floods. Many hands then assisted, to move wet chattels and possessions to the dry lands of Duke Wilbert and the Faire was saved! The final pen and ink agreement to use the fair green turf had been completed by yet another William, Count Carey, and so, by merrye chance, hard word, kind hearts and much effort, the Faire was made possible by two Bills and one Wil! We invite ye all to make merrye, and to enjoy thee Utah Renaissance Festival & Fantasy Faire!! |
