Show Transportation A bid was prepared for the resurface of Pioneer Road with a 1" overlay and chip seal. Central Weber Sewer District agreed to pay for an overlay project for its impact on the road during their reconstruction. It covers Pioneer Road from 1900 West to 2800 West. The bid, conducted by the city, was awarded to Parsons, in the amount of about $132,000. It should be completed by October 2011. Trent Meyerhoffer worked with Weber County to fill the pot holes on the roads as soon as weather permitted. President Dennis Ilium said the dead end on 700 South needs to be chipped again. The road in the worst condition was 1200 West between 12th and 17* Streets, which was overlaid this summer. Granite Construction was awarded the bid to resurface 1200 West between 12*1 and 17* Streets in June 2011. A portion of the 400 North project required the top 2.5 inches of asphalt on at least the south half of the road to be replaced, as it failed a compaction test. Starting Monday, June 20, 2011, Staker-Parsons roto-milled two inches of asphalt off the south side of 400 North , in order to replace the portion which failed the compaction test last fall. The following day the contractor put down the new asphalt to be properly compacted. Thursday, June 23, the contractor chip-sealed the entire road; then it was fog sealed and then painted. Landscaping is still underway. A final list of outstanding completion items was submitted to the contractor. Mayor Butler thanked residents and business along the road for their patience during construction, which was an involved project. Councilman Rob Smout said the road sign for Venture School has been hung, and thanked Mr. Meyerhoffer for his help in putting the sign up. He thanked Councilman Scott VanLeeuwen for his donation to the Venture School. He feels it is good for the city to help the people in the community. With last year's projects and those this summer, the road funds are depleted. The City took advantage of the low oil prices last year and got the contracts for this year's projects submitted early to get great savings in construction costs. Citizens must be patient as road fund reserves are rebuilt so the city can continue to operate debt free. By October, striping on roads had been completed. Councilman Kim Slater suggested that the city contact our state representative about getting UDOT to paint the striping for the 12th Street off ramps for I- 15. He noted that the city's new entryway signs on 400 North at 1200 West look very nice; also that there are potholes which need to be filled before the arrival of cold weather. Residents were reminded that it is illegal to park on the side of the road during and after a snowstorm, because of necessary snowplowing. The most traveled roads in the city are plowed first, subdivisions and the least traveled roads are plowed last. Home and business owners with sidewalk are responsible to remove the snow from the sidewalk within 24 hours after a snowstorm. Garbage cans should be removed from the road soon after collection. In November 2011, a letter was received from the George Wahlen Veteran's Nursing Home on 1200 West, asking that 1200 West between the Farr West border and 400 North be named Veteran's Way. Kim Slater and President Dennis Ilium have a concern with named roads as they are hard to find, for fire and police personnel as well as individuals. Mr. Morris said the road signs would have both 1200 West and the street name on the street address sign. A motion by Councilman Scott VanLeeuwen to designate the portion of 1200 West between the Farr West border and 400 North as Veteran's Way failed on a roll call vote, with Mr. Slater and President Ilium voting nay, and Mr. Hodson and Mr. VanLeeuwen voting aye, ending with a tie . Councilman Rob Smout was absent, and Mr. VanLeeuwen encouraged a reconsideration of the issue at the January meeting. 14 |
