Show Dates of the event are May 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22. They feel that attendance should equal last year's. The Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire was held at 1723 West 1350 South, an alternate location provided by the generosity of Advanced Paving. Sue Bodily of the Festival, reported a successful activity and thanked Mr. Morris for his help in arranging for the site. Our city garnered national attention at the Faire as National Geographic filmed the jousting company, the Knights of Mayhem, on May 14, 2011. The communities of Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville, and Plain City hosted an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, April 30, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until Noon, at the Farr West Elementary School, 2190 West 2700 North. There were businesses with emergency supplies and ideas. Information was available to help families when or if an emergency or disaster strikes. Marriott-Slaterville and Harrisville City joined in forming a Summer of Fun Tennis, for children ages 11 and under. Registration ended on May 28, 2011, with lessons beginning June 6, and 8, at 9:00 a.m. Balls and rackets were available for five lessons, two per week. The cost was $20 per child, with discounts for additional children in the family. There were three cycles of lessons, the second started June 27, and the third on July 2, 2011. A Tennis Block Party, designed to expose new and prospective tennis players to the sport, was held on May 21, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the Harrisville Tennis Courts. Beginning next year, some of the cities on the north end of the county may require that participants in youth recreation programs, live in the respective city. Our city is too small to operate an independent program. Staff has made arrangements with Harrisville City to participate with their youth recreation. Our residents will be given the same cost and programs available to Harrisville residents. Harrisville will have the use of all our recreation facilities, especially the tee-ball field at the Marriott Park, which they will maintain at their expense, beginning next year. Beginning in May, the July 4*1 Freedom Celebration activities and assignments were reviewed and discussed by the City Council. Assignments were the same as last year. Help from the Sheriff's Office again in serving lunch was requested. Councilman Rob Smout had already begun purchasing prizes. Fun topped the interest in the June issue of The Pioneer Post. An evening of "Music at the Park," was held on June 25, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. Featured were Desiree Stephens, Emily Jenson, and Savannah, Annah, and Ezrah Brandley. A bigger and better Freedom Celebration pleased City residents who participated in the events. Festivities began on Friday, July 1, 2011 ,with the Twelfth Annual Golf Tournament, under the direction of Danny Brown. It was held at the Ben Lomond Golf Course, with tee times available between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The cost, including green fees, was $15.00. The winner of the Tournament was the Wilson family. An early morning 5K RunAA/alk, held on Monday, July 4*\ was the next activity, with Bob Hirschi in charge. The winner of 5K men's division was Josh Dimick; Lindsey Slater Ortega won the women's race. Line up for the annual parade began at 10:00 a.m. on 700 South, and the parade commenced at 10:30 a.m. It followed the route from 700 South along 1200 West to the Marriott Park, and featured an increased number of amazing floats. Also there were many decorated bicycles, tricycles, and wagons, accompanied by enthusiastic walkers. Antique cars, tractors, golf carts, and vehicles from the Weber County Sheriff's and Fire Departments, added interest. The Parade Queens were LaRee Shurtliff, Virgie Storrer and Pearl Stanger.
