Marriott-Slaterville Dear Mayor Butler Thank you so much for supporting Idle Free Awareness Month. This year we had over 40 Mayors supporting the Campaign, demonstrating to all Utahns the importance of preserving air quality, protecting health, and saving money. We are sending you the Idle Free Awareness Month Declaration from the Office of the Governor. Please feel free to contact Utah Clean Cities if there is anything that we can provide you and your city with to promote Idle Reduction throughout the year. Since 2008, we have received support for Alternative Fuel Vehicle Awareness Month from the Governor and Mayors. We are now gearing up for Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Awareness Month November 2011. Many people have concerns about AFVs, but with today's economy it is important that we start considering other options. The US uses about 21 million barrels per day of oil, two-thirds of petroleum is used for transportation, with two-thirds of that being used as gasoline. In addition, the US only produces 6 million barrels per day, resulting in over 70 percent of oil used in the US being imported. By investing in AFVs and alternative fuels, we can cut our dependence on foreign fuel, while also using sustainable and cleaner energy sources. The use of alternative fuels will provide healthier environments, save on health care costs in the future, and supply lower-cost fuels. Alternative Fuels, as defined by the Energy Policy Act of 1992 include: biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, hydrogen, methanol, natural gas, and propane. AFV use these fuels in part or exclusively to power engines. |
