Spring Clean-up Its time to clean up the house, yard, and barn and get rid of your junk. To help you during Spring Cleaning Days, the City provides a dumpster at Marriott Park and at Slaterville Park. Residents are free to use these dumpsters which are paid from the City's beautification fund. The dumpsters are available at both parks April 15-17. When dumping, please put all garbage completely inside the dumpster and not on the ground. This service is sponsored by Marriott-Slaterville City and Waste Management. Gardening Tips for April April showers bring May flowers.. .and there is so much to get done! It is definitely one of the busiest months in the garden. Here are a few tips for what to do in the garden this month: 1. Work organic matter into the garden before planting. 2. Plant hardy and semi-hardy vegetables like peas, radishes, lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, and cabbage. 3. Prune hybrid tea roses before they leaf out. (Wait to prune climbing and shrub roses until after they bloom). 4. Prune winter damaged branches and twigs ornamentals. 5. Plant shrubs, perennials, and cool season annuals like pansies and primrose. 6. Cut herbaceous perennials not cut back in the fall. 7. Divide and transplant overgrown perennials. 8. Fertilize the bulbs. 9. Plant bare-root fruit trees and berries. 10. Apply fungicide to stone fruit trees for coryneum blight. Aerate lawns and fertilize using a nitrogen fertilizer. 11. Apply lawn pre-emergent to control annual weeds. 12. Check irrigation system. 13. Deadhead spring blooming bulbs such as daffodils, crocus and tulips. 14. Start warm season vegetables and flowers indoors under fluorescent lights. Transplant outdoors after last frost. 15. Cut back ornamental grasses to 2 - 3 inches and apply pre-emergent on lawn to control crabgrass. 16. Attend the Marriott-Slaterville City "Arbor Day Celebration" to dedicate completion of 400 North. 17. Plant some new perennials. RABIES CLINIC Weber County Animal Shelter at 1373 North 750 West will host its final Rabies Clinic on April 16 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. Dr. Steve Lemmon, DVM, will provide Rabies shot for $13.00. County dog licenses also available. West Davis Corridor Many thanks to everyone who took time to submit feedback on the West Davis Corridor Study since our February open houses in West Point, Farmington, West Haven, and online. Several thousand people submitted comments, which helps us refine and evaluate the alternatives being considered for further study. Over the next several months we will be reviewing your comments one-by-one and performing detailed analysis on the alternatives. Please stay informed on the progress of the study through our website and email updates! EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR The communities of Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville, and Plain City will be hosting an Emergency Preparedness Fair, on Saturday, April 30,2011, from 9:00 a.m until Noon, at Farr West Elementary School, 2190 W 2700 N. There will be businesses with emergency supplies and ideas. Emergency management agencies will provide use information to help in when an emergency or if disaster strikes. Bring your family and friends. |
