FRANK W. PHILPOTT, 30, drowned June 15, 1974 while swimming. A resident of Mesa, Ariz., JOHN E. CARTER has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve. He attended the Air Force Reserve of- ficers Training Corps courses while he was enrolled at Weber State. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen E. Carter, he is married to the former Rachel Tidwell of Tooele. he was an operations officer for Walker Bank and Trust Co. before joining Zions as cashier and operations officer. STEPHEN C. SPURLOCK has been named manager of the South Ogden branch of First Security Bank. A graduate of Weber State, he joined First Security in 1973 as a managment trainee. He is a certified real estate appraiser and has completed courses through the American Institute of Banking. LORENZO N. HOOPES, who at- tended Weber College and is currently senior vice president of Safeway Stores, Inc., was awar- ded the Jesse Knight Industrial Citizenship Award at Brigham Young University. JOSEPH THOMAS KLEIN JR., he attended Weber State College and graduated from Ogden High School while living in Ogden. He had served in the Army Reserve and had worked as an insurance agent. He was an Elder in the LDS 20th Ward in Mesa. He is survived by his wife, the former Tamara 27, was lost at sea off the Baja California coast. He was an executive aide to the county supervisor at Orange County, Calif He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He attended Weber State College and California State in Fullerton. Calif. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Margie Klein of Roy; four Pinder; one daughter. brothers and three sisters. MAX HUISH McEWAN, 57, of North Ogden died July 2, 1974, of a heart attack. He had been owner and manager of the McEwan Weber Floral in Ogden for 32 years. He served with the Army during World War II. He graduated from Weber College and was a member of the North Ogden 2nd LDS Ward. He was a member of the Utah Retail Florists Association and a former member of the BPO Elks. He had worked for Parsons Construction Co. in Ogden and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Survivors are two daughters; his mother, Mrs. Margie Klein of Roy; four brothers and three sisters. TIMOTHY MICHAEL KLEIN, 25, was lost at sea off the Baja California coast. He worked for Guaranteed Automotive Specialists in Ogden and had served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He had graduated from Weber State College. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Margie Klein of Roy; four brothers, three sisters.
