Show Show Definite Promise In the early going of the 1976 football season, the Weber State Wildeats have more than lived up to their advanced billing as a changed team. Although losing a heartbreaker to heavily favored Long Beach State, the ’Cats showed that they were wide open, had perhaps the best skilled personnel on the campus, and showed definite promise for improvement over last year’s league season. The league statistics at the end of the week show the Wildcats leading the Big Sky Conference in passing by a_ substantial margin. Not surprisingly, the Wildeats also have the leading passer in the conference, quarterback Rod Bockwoldt and the leading receiver, flanker Rick Molina. Indications are that the situation will continue throughout the season. The Wildcat football team is embarking on one of its roughest schedules ever. Besides the Big Sky Conference schools, the ’Cats play two Division I powers this season in Long Beach State and Utah State. Two tough intersectional foes on the schedule are Nevada Las Vegas and Western Illinois. The added game raises the Wildcats to four home contests and gives them a full slate of eleven games, the maximum allowed by the NCAA. The Big Sky Conference, top to bottom, shows the best balance ever. In the annual preseason meeting held at Boise, the coaches themselves picked Idaho State by a narrow margin over Boise State as the conference champion. The rest of the field was bunched up closely with Northern Arizona) bringing up the rear. In the first week of action, however, Indications are for a topsy-turvy league season. Season ticket prices for the home schedule are a great buy, with no price increases having been made over last year.
