The simple fact that each diploma would carry more credence is a substantial reason for student interest. Other important factors which generate student support are, better services provided to students after graduation in meeting their educational needs: a Sharp enhancement of the alumMike Hunsaker, ni program, increased responsibility of the college in recruitment, job placement, academic achievement and in meeting the needs of the community. Knowing the high caliber of the School of Education at Weber State College, students here think that the Board of Regents should consider a graduate school in Education at Weber State to be a high priority item. President, ASWSC Dr. Garth Welch, Dr. Robert S. Mikkelsen, Dr. Dello G. Dayton Graduate programs are an opportunity for academic excellence. If we could offer graduate work in education at Weber, we could challenge both our faculty and our students with that opportunity. Moreover, the standards for academic achievement that are required by graduate studies would stimulate our ability to attain excellence in our baccalaureate programs. Our entire college would be enriched. Dr. Robert S. I view this as an opportunity to offer graduate work designed specifically to meet the needs of the public school districts served by Weber. It can be specifically designed, yet very flexible, in order to meet changing needs. A graduate program would also provide the stimulus necessary to challenge Weber State College faculty — challenge faculty to utilize many of their talents thus far untapped in an undergraduate It is appropriate that the Board of Regents carefully review Weber’s request for authorization to initiate a Masters Degree Program in Education. Such a review will, I believe, provide adequate justification for such a program. The program is limited in nature and is designed to meet a special need. The program is only for the improvement of teachers already employed. It will be developed in conjunction with the school districts and can be planned to be cost effective. Weber State College presently has a large number of trained faculty members ready and able to work in such a program. The community need is_ overwhelming. The Graduate Program fits well in the overall mission of Weber State College as a total comprehensive college.
