Show Former President Dies At 85 Dr. Ricks taught at Weber College from 1917 until his appointment as president. He resigned the position to accept a post as professor of history at Utah Agricultural College (Utah State University). He graduated from Weber Normal College. He had been an active member of the Ogden Lions Club. He had owned and operated retail stores in Ogden, Morgan, Salt Lake City and Kemmerer, Wyo. He was a high priest and executive secretary in the Bountiful 4th Ward, and had been active in Sunday School, MIA, and the Boy Scout program. Surviving are his widow, the former Sarah Eleanor Thompson; three sons. FRED BURTON JONES, 77, of Ogden died Oct. 8, 1974, in Ogden of pneumonia. He had been a switchman for the Ogden Union Railway and Depot Co., retiring in 1962 and had worked for the Dee Hospital several years. He attended Weber Academy and had been a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers Club and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Lodge 293. He was a lifelong member of BPO Elks 719 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Surviving is one daughter. MRS. ELVIN HENRY MAW, 82, of .Plain City, died Oct. 18, 1974, in Ogden following surgery. He was a farmer in Plain City and had been educated in Weber County, and attended Weber Academy. He had been bishop and bishop’s counselor in Plain City and had served a three-year mission in Denver, Colo. He had served on the Plain City Town board and had been president of the Weber County Farm Bureau. He is survived by his widow, the former Olive McFarland; one daughter. Memorium HOWARD Dr. Joel E. Ricks weighing all chances of success BARLOW, 84, of Ogden died Oct. 13, 1974, in Ogden of a lingering illness. She graduated from Weber Academy and had been a secretary for the Watson-Tanner Clothing Co. and the U.S. Forest Service in Ogden. She was an active member of the LDS Church and had been a counselor, secretary and visiting teacher in the Relief Society and had worked in the MIA and Sunday School. She was married to John Frederick Barlow who died in 1967. Surviving are three sons and two daughters. GRAHAM NEIL PORTER, 42, of Peterson, Morgan County, died Oct. 6, 1974, at his home after an extended illness. He attended Weber State College. He was employed by Amcor, Inc. of Ogden and was a former employe of Clark Brothers Feed Co. and W. W. Clyde Construction. He was a member of the Utah-Idaho Teamsters Union. Surviving are his widow, the former Marjorie Lepley; one son and three daughters. JOSEPH F. SMITH, 80, of Green River, Wyo., died Oct. 8, 1974, in the Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital. He had attended Weber Academy and was a member of the LDS Church. He had been a Union Pacific Railroad car inspector in Green River and was a member of the Carmen’s Union. He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are his widow, the former Vera Robinson; two sons and two daughters. VIOLA MAY HANSEN, 9%, of South Ogden died at her home on Oct. 27, 1974, of causes incident to age. She graduated from Weber Academy in 1902. She taught school in Ogden and Layton for more than 35 years and had also been a seminary teacher. She was a well-known artist. A member of the LDS Church, she was ac- tive in Relief Society and Sunday School. Surviving Hansen; was also shaw who are her husband, William Moir one son and one daughter. She married to Samuel Maisey Kerdied in 1931. JAMES WRIGHT SHUPE SR., 72, of North Ogden, died Oct. 9, 1974 at his home of a heart attack. He graduated from Weber Academy and had been a supervisor at Defense Depot Ogden for 31 years, retiring in 1969. He had also been employed by the J. G. Read and Brothers Co. for 25 years. He had been a high priest in the North Ogden 3rd Ward and a member of the Officers Club at DDO and of the Ogden Logistics Association. Surviving are his widow, the former Myrtle Bybee; one son and two daughters. ALFRED MARVIN WILLIAMSON, 30, of Layton, died Nov. 4, 1974, in an automobile accident near Heber. He had attended Weber State College and was a splicer for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. He was a member of the LDS Church and served a mission to Scotland in 1963-65. Surviving are his widow, the former Kim Saunders; one daughter. ARWELL L. MCKAY, 80, of Ogden died Oct. 28, 1974, in Ogden after an extended illness. He had been a farmer in Huntsville. He retired from farming in 1960 and moved to Ogden and had worked at Defense Depot Ogden, Railway Postal Terminal and Weber State College. ile attended Weber Academy and Utah State University.
