NATHAN C. TANNER A. RUSSELL CROFT DR. RULON GARFIELD 3 Earn Awards for Service, Achievement Three men received awards from the Weber State College Alumni Association during the annual alumni banquet Oct. 24. Dr. Rulon Garfield and A. Russell Croft were honored with Outstanding Alumni awards, while Nathan Tanner received the Outstanding Service citation. Dr. Garfield is a native of Harrisville and graduated from Weber College in 1950. He later earned bachelor, master and doc- toral degrees from the University of Utah. He served as director of educational services for Ogden City Schools, was a teacher and principal and taught in three of Utah’s institutions of higher learning. Dr. Garfield was president of an educational consulting firm which evaluated educational programs at university, college, secondary and elementary levels. the Currently, Dr. Garfield is director of Region 8, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, in Denver, Colo. In his position, he is responsible for carrying out departmental policies and for administrating $1.2 billion within the region, which includes Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota. Mr. Croft, a former president of the Associated Alumni of Weber State, graduated from Weber Academy in 1915. A leading watershed scientist recognized for his achievements, he _ received bachelor and master’s degrees from Utah State University. Mr. Croft taught biology and forestry at Weber U.S. College from 1925 to 1934 and later joined He has published more than 40 articles on watershed management. Mr. Croft is currently a member of the Weber State College development board with responsibilities for obtaining funds for the college. Mr. Tanner is a native of Ogden. He attended Utah State University and holds a bachelor degree from the University of Utah.
