The Changing Face _- Work begins on Harrison express. ————— | ie ries of = ee 7) = me, oe - — =e ie" Cornerstone of M SL In 1948 the first issue of the ‘‘Weber Alumnus” was mailed from the old campus at 24th and Adams Avenue. The publication contained articles by college President, Dr. Henry Aldous Dixon, Alumni President, D. Ray Wilkinson and studentbody President, Laurence J. Burton. Of special interest in this publication were photos of the newly acquired property on Harrison Blvd., that was to be the home of Weber College. The State Legislature had earlier appropriated $50,000 for the purchase of the 180 acre site east of the city with the stipulation that the community and supporters of the college match the amount. In the brief period of eight days, some 4500 community members, plus hundreds of alumni gathered together $65,000 to insure the purchase of the present campus site and begin the new growth of Weber College. Dr. Dixon in his article in the Weber Alumnus spoke of the expansion to the new campus as being... ‘“‘inevitable but also 15 years overdue.”’ In 1952 construction began on_ the Harrison campus and in 1954 the students occupied the new location on the east bench of the city. The discussions continued for the addition of the Junior and Senior year that would make Weber a full four-year degree granting institution. Many hours were spent on the project, but four year status was eventually granted and the phenomenal growth of Weber State began. The chronological sequence of the transition from Weber Junior College to the new Weber State College has been told and retold. We will not attempt here to travel over that ground again, but rather to show pictorially the great change in ‘‘Old Weber.” Since the ‘‘Weber Alumnus’’ was issued in 1948, many of the dreams of the contributors to that publication have been realized and for the benefit of those who have not seen us lately here in brief, pictorial outline is Weber State College, yesterday, today and possibly tomorrow. wt —_—-— Of Weber State
