Show EEE Class Notes STEVE GARDNER, a graduate of Weber State, is a new addition to the faculty at Bonneville High School. He teaches health, math, Science and is on the coaching staff. He played professional baseball for four years in Texas. GEORGIANA MIYAGISHIMA exhibited pieces of her art work recently at the Eccles Community Art Center in Ogden. The exhibit featured relief sculpture. Miss Miyagishima has won many awards for her work and received a degree in art from Weber State. MELVIN P. WISE has earned a master’s degree from Brigham Young University in guidance counseling. He graduated from Weber State in 1969. Now a student counselor in Lyman, Wyo., he is married to the former Julie Anne Greer and they have two daughters. KEN POST, former WSC theater star, had his play ‘‘Happy” presented by the Weber State theater department Feb. 4-8. An Ogden resident, Mr. Post won first prize in the 1974 Utah State Playwriting Contest for the work. JUAN MIGUEL ‘MIKE”’ APEZTEGUIA, a graduate of Weber State who won a fight against deportation while attending WSC, has moved to the Intermountain area after losing a dairy farm to fire and a brother in an accident. He earned a master’s degree from Brigham Young University in mathematics and married a BYU coed. He expects to become a naturalized U.S. citizen in May. NORMAN C. PENROD has been promoted to the post of district supervisor for the State Division of Rehabilitation Ser- vices, Northern Utah District. Mr. Penrod lives in Pleasant View and has worked for the Division of Rehabilitation Services since 1964 and has been supervisory counselor since 1969. He graduated from WSC and earned a master’s degree from Utah State UniverSity. GARY BURTON, GARY LYNN RASMUSSEN, ROBERT ALLEY, and PAUL ORTON, graduates of Weber State, completed and reported on a study they conducted to determine the effects of mercury as a pollutant in the environment with emphasis on its impact on the behavior of small mammals. They presented a final report at a meeting of the National Science Foundation in Washington D.C. in late December. ROBERT going White K. WOLTHUIS liaison team. ROGER REID, former Weber State College athlete, is in his first season as basketball coach Dr. Wolthuis attended Weber College before earning bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Utah. He obtained a 1955 and a bachelor degree in 1964 from Weber State. JEAN GROBERG, of Weber Miss Groberg received extensive training from private instructors in Salt Lake City and San Francisco before joining the California company. a graduate State with a bachelor degree, was chosen from a field of 114 who auditioned for membership in the San Francisco Opera Company. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Groberg of Ogden, and her father is a professor of art at Weber State. After leaving Weber State, at MARK EVANS AUSTAD, a for- mer studentbody officer at WSC has been approved by the U.S. Senate to serve as Ambassador to Finland. Mr. Austad is currently vice president of Metro Media Broadcasting Company. Clearfield High School this winter. JOHN to the state ABENDROTH, tour- a main- stay on the Weber State College golf team for three years, has qualified for the 1975 PGA tour. ROLAND M. BERRETT has been named operations officer for the First Security Bank’s main Ogden office. He attended Weber State College. An active civic leader, he joined First Security in 1946 in Salt Lake City. He also attended the Ogden Business College and is a member of the_ American Institute of Banking. JIM MANN, an offensive lineman on the Weber State foot- ball team for three years, has’ been named high school football coach of the year for San Diego County in California. He received the honor after taking the San Diego County prep championship with an undefeated record. He served as assistant coach at Roy High for two years before moving to San Diego, where he was assistant coach at El Cajon Valley High for seven years, just completing his first season as head coach. RICHARD PONCE DELEON was named to the Job Corps’ Hall of Fame in Washington D.C. Mr. DeLeon is an honor graduate of Clearfield Job Corps Center and recipient of a bachelor’s degree from Weber State. He is now employed by the Thiokol 2nd LT. STEVEN D. ROBERTS has been assigned as a French linguist in the Utah Army National Guard. An auditor for the Utah State Tax Commission, he is married to the former Marianne Peterson of Bountiful. He received a bachelor degree from Weber State College. WAYNE HANSEN LARRY NEAL JENSEN, 40, died Dec. 10, 1974, at his home in Milton. He attended Weber State College and graduated from Utah State University. He was a veteran of Army service and had been employed by the Salt Lake County Health Department. Surviving are his widow, the former Deanna Farmer; one son and two daughters. WILLIAM VERNON CAZIER, 89, of Ogden died Dec. 11, 1974, in Weber He attended Ogden. Academy and was a member of the LDS Church. He had worked as a postal clerk for 30 years and was married to the former Abbie Myrtle Garrett who died in 1967. Surviving are three sons, five grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. MRS. LINDA JENSEN, ANN SHEPARD 34, of Riverdale died Dec. 12, 1974, in Salt Lake City. She graduated from Weber State College with an associate degree in nursing and received a bachelor degree from the University of Utah College of Nursing. She had worked at the Dee, McKay-Dee and St. Benedict’s Hospitals. Surviving are two sons and three daughters. MRS. LILLIAN PEARL WIGGILL CHENEY, 73, of Ogden died Nov. 12, 1974, at her home. She graduated from Weber Normal College and was married to Henry Watson Cheney who died in 1958. She worked at the Weber County treasurer’s office and had served as missionary and temple worker for the LDS Church. She served as service chairman for the Weber County Cancer Committee and was a member of the WSC Emeritus Club. EARL EDWARD LEE, 78, of Ogden died Dec. 14, 1974, at his home. He had taught at Weber State College during World War II. He was active in the LDS Church and retired from the Army Transportation Corps Rail Shop at Hill Air Force Base in 1965 after 20 years. He is survived by his widow, the former Bertha Mary Shaw; one son and two daughters; 12 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. A. DYKSTRA, CPA, licensed to practice in Utah and Arizona, has recently been given the responsible position of Budget and Research supervisor for the city of Mesa, Ariz. He received an associate degree in ALVIN J. ROBSON, 74, of Plain City died Dec. 12, 1974, in Weber County. He attended Weber Academy and was a prominent farmer and civic and church leader. He had also worked as a carpenter and fireman at Hill Air Force Base and Defense Depot Ogden. Surviving are his widow, the former Leona Warner; CORA MARY CHARLTON, Ogden. He attended 55, of 14, 1974 in Weber State College. He was active in the LDS Church and was a sales and service manager for the Egan Farm Service. Surviving are his widow, the former Lois Cottel; three daughters ; two grandchildren. 65, EDWARD JAMES PEDLER, of San Leandro, Calif., died Jan. 2, 1975, in San Leandro. He had attended Weber State College and had worked at the Depot Drug Store in Ogden and for General Motors in Oakland, Calif. He ser- ved in the Army during World War II. Surviving is his widow, the former Evangline Mary Cook. four daughters ; nine grandchildren. MRS. GLEN Plain City died Dec. Chemical Company, the center contractor, as a unit coordinator at the Clearfield center in charge of 12 resident advisors and 320 Corpsmen. is to join President Ford’s House staff on the new congressional Ph.D. degree in international relations at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where he later taught. He came to Washington in 1965 as an assistant to Sen. Wallace F. Bennett. For nearly two years Wolthuis has been part of the Defense Departmats liaison staff on Capitol Hill. ANN MYERS CRAGUN, 60, of Ogden died Nov. 19, 1974, at her home. She had attended Weber College and was an active member of the LDS church. She had worked at Weber Central Dairy and for Fred M. Nye Co. Surviving are her husband, Norman Wilford Cragun; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. HAROLD J. ROGHAAR, 56, of Ogden died Dec. 22, 1974, at his home. He graduated from Weber State College with a bachelor degree. He had been an accountant at Hill Air Force Base and had served in the Navy during World War II. He was active in the LDS Church, in the Boy Scouts and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Surviving are his widow, the former Genice Perkins; two sons and one daughter. |
