Allred Four faculty members at Weber State College have been selected to receive this year’s Presidential Distinguished Professor Awards. They are Dr. Ruth D. Brown, associate professor of nursing; Dr. Richard W. Sadler, professor of History; Dr. Gordon T. Allred, professor of English, and Dr. Benne Williams professor of psychology. The four were chosen from a field of 24 nominees for the awards, which are being made by Dr. Rodney H. Brady, WSC president. Each of the recipients will receive a $2,000 cash award and a $1,000 expense allowance to be used for professional development, as approved by the vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Brown has been on the WSC faculty since 1975. She also served on the faculties of the Dee School of Nursing, the University of Utah, and the University of Washington. She was chosen ‘Teacher of the Year’’ from the WSC School of Allied Health Sciences during the 1979-80 year. Dr. Brown is a member of numerous professional and honorary associations, including the Noel studentbody president of ‘80-81, Utah Association of Academic Professions, the Utah Mental Health Association, Phi Kappa and project chairman. The project will include new of committees including chairman of the WSC Faculty Senate for five years. for the states of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. His service to government also includes membership on the National Advisory Committee on Banking Policies and Practices for the Comptroller of Currency, U.S. Treasury. He is the author of many short stories, magazine articles and books. Some of his best-known works include “The Hungry Journey,” ‘The Valley of Tomorrow,” names of donors to the project pin.
