DOUG FRIEDLI (Cross Country-Indoor Track-Outdoor Track) and PENNY WANBERG \Volleyball-Basketball-Softball) were named the 1980-81 Outstanding Male and Female Athletes of the Year. In 1980, she was named the WSC Outstanding women’s basketball player and was First Team All-Conference Mountain Division. She led the team in scoring as a junior with 16.0 points per gamed and 4.5 assisted. She was accorded All-American honors for Region Seven by the National Scouting Association/Women’s Pro Basketball’ League. Penny was named to the annual Copper Classic All-Tournament team three consecutive seasons. She holds the school record for career, season and game assists for the Lady Wildcats. In softball, she had the highest batting average on the team as a junior and holds the school record for most hits in a game (5), most stolen bases in one game (4) and most stolen bases in one season (15). On the scholastic side, Terry Elton, a middle distance runner for the Wildcats during the past four seasons, was the recipient of the Big Sky Conference Scholar Athlete Award for Weber State.
