Wednesday, August 22, 1934. A telephone call from Martha Cooley at 730 AM telling me of a terriable auto accident in which Bro and Sister Joseph McFarland were instantly killed having come in contact with Bamberger train at 12 PM last night. Have helped phone some of their dear friends Acacia Club members. Have accomplished little else today. She Sister McFarland and I have met as Acacia Club members for over 20 years. She has also been one of our Relief Society Class teachers in the 12 Ward for 20 yr. We shall all miss her very much. I have been at the same meetings once each week for 12 years with Pres. McFarland. Very fine people & dear friend. I shall miss them. Saturday, August 25, 1934. Mad hot cakes for breakfast as the children seldom have them. Cleone Jr Carol, Dr Junior. Oertel, Oscar ate them cooked the last at 1130. Bro & Sister Harry Russell called early this morning. Have been buisy helping Oertel pack. They are going via of Yellowstone Park Bro & Sister Russell will go that for with them. It is not easy to see them go for not elling when we shall see them all again. Janath has spent her time mostly at Cleones with Maren. The have had such a good time togather. We have all enjoyed the summer togather it went all to fast. A long drive is before them but Robert has learned to walk & Carol has had her toe operated so they will no doubt remember that they left after two PM.
