Thursday, September 27, 1934. Dr, Royal Eccles and I attended the funeral services of Vice President Anthony W Ivans held in the LDS Tabernacle Salt Lake City at 1230 today. We viewed him at the Church Office Building where he lay in State. Thousands were in attendance. He was dearly beloved by all. No funeral of any Utah citizen has been paid so many fine tributes. It was an inspiration and great priveledge to know him and be counted among his friends. The service was presided over by J Ruben Clark second Vice Pres of the church. Pres. Heber J. Grant is in great sorrow over his death and sat with the family as they were cousins and greatly attatched to each toerh thro their long love and work togather. over. The hudnreds of beautiful flower pieces, wonderful singign, speaches, by John G McQuarrie former president of Eastern States Mission spoke of his early life in the Dixie Country. Dr Pres. Elener G Peterson of AC College of which Pres Ivans was presidnet of board of trustees for many years. Dr Franklin S Harris Pres of BYU wpoke of his family life & Apostle DO McKay paid a most beautiful tribute in every way. JF Fitzpatrick publisher of the Salt Lake Tribune and the telegram gave wonderful example of his manhood. In all the most wonderful service we ever attended. Dr had shared his friend ship out in the open with him. They had been the guests on a fishing & hunting trip of Royal Eccles up in the Oregon Country several years ago. Bro Ivan shad been one of the speakers at Edward Rich Eccles funeral. and other close contacts had been enjoyed. Avon and Mrs. Covey here to stay all nite.
