Show Tuesday, October 9, 1934. Home duties same. This afternoon attended the 9 Ward Relief Society. Work and business about 12 wemon bound their magazines. A very good meeting. They also tied a quilt off for a family in need. I took the street car home went on up to Cleones and made five doz doughnuts. After dinner Dr and I went down to see George Arless in The Last Gentelman. Am hopeing I can have a few days home to myself to work on Avons scrapbook soon. Wednesday, October 10,1934. Wrote to Avon. Did some shopping. Wrote a letter of condolence to the Barrett girls in Salt Lake whos father John Barrett passed away. Attended & presided at Relief Society Board meeting. Mrs. Ally Y Pond gave the teachers topic Halloween. The day was originaly called All Hallow Eve and preceded All Saints Day. It has been inherited from Pagan times. It is a survivial of the Ancient Briton autumn festival in honor of the Sun God at which time bon fires were made by the Druids to show their appreciation of the harvest. It is also a revival of the ancietn Roman festival in honor of Pamona the Goddess of fruit and flowers. |
