Show Marriott-Slaterville History January 1 - 'December 31,2010 Marriott-Slaterville City reached a milestone in July 2010, as we completed our first decade as an incorporated city! As we have watched, planned, worked, and improved our community, we are amazed at the things that have happened. Mayor Keith Butler reminds us, "We have accomplished many wonderful things, we have had good times and bad, we have grown and have stayed the same." As citizens of our community, we should be very grateful to be where we are, at the time we are, as look forward to the future. The January 2010 issue of The Pioneer Post, featured the State of the City by Mayor Keith Butler. He reported that the city came through the fiscal year with a modest surplus, at a time when many cities, states, and the nation are facing a great financial crises. Many projects were completed, including the reconstruction of the Marriott Park Bowery and the park at City Hall. The beautiful garden there is the result of untold volunteer hours by community gardeners. Property on 17* Street was acquired for eventual extension of the river parkway. Great activities such as the Easter Egg Hunt, the July 4*1 celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, and Breakfast with Santa were enjoyed by many. Several outstanding volunteers were honored in December for their community activities. More projects and activities are planned for the coming year. The reconstruction of 400 North was undertaken, which required patience from residents and travelers. Mayor Butler looked forward to great things in the next decade. City Government At the January 21, 2010, City Council Meeting, the oath of office was administered to Mayor Keith Butler, Councilman Kim Slater, and Councilman Delbert Hodson, by Becky Burt, City Recorder, and a notary public. The Mayor and councilmen were re-elected in the November 3, 2009, election. Dennis Ilium was elected by acclamation as Council President with Scott VanLeeuwen as Vice- president. Rob Smout, who served as Vice-president of the Council for several years asked to be excused from serving in that position for the coming year. Council members completed a required disclosure statement, which was returned to the City Recorder for notarization. Security camera systems at .the city office and city parks have been installed and are working well. City Administrator Bill Morris gave the annual training presentation on the Open Meeting Act and also on Unlawful Discrimination and Harassment to the City Council on April 15, 2010. This included the process of filing and processing a complaint. The spring dumpster clean-up program from April 16-18, 2010, went well; the city paid the dumping fee. Some residents complained that the dumpsters were always full when people tried to use them. Residents can rent a dumpster for their own use, if desired. The city completed a Storm Water Management Plan some years ago. Mr. Morris advised that the state is requiring an update of this plan, which should occur in the next few months. Dean Ayala, from Jones & Associates, gave the council information relating to the updated state storm water plan requirements at the September 16, 2010, City Council meeting. |
