Show The Pioneer Post Volume XII Issue 4 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter April 2010 Justice Court Changes For nearly 12 years, Marriott-Slaterville has been part of the Weber Justice Court. Ongoing issues with the Weber Justice Court involving budget deficits and personnel problems have resulted in the county asking Roy City take over this Court. Roy City does not use the county sheriff for law enforcement. Marriott-Slaterville uses the county sheriff. Therefore, Marriott-Slaterville is not going to use Roy City Justice Court, except for cases prior to April 1, 2010. Marriott-Slaterville has joined Washington Terrace who also uses the county sheriff. Marriott-Slaterville had originally hope to join with the Farr West Justice Court. However, the state court agency informed us that they would likely required costly court upgrades for a merger with Farr West, so that merger was abandoned. By merging with Washington Terrace the upgrades to a new court class are avoided. Unfortunately, Washington Terrace is not as close as the Farr West. However, most of the Justice Court cases involve non-residents. As a convenience, residents receiving a non-mandatory appearance citation can contact the City Attorney at 801- 627-1919 ext. 205 to see if a plea arrangement can be reached on a case-by-case basis without having to appear in Court. Otherwise, all new cases after April 1, 2010, will be handled in the new "Washington Terrace / Marriott-Slaterville Justice Court" located in Washington Terrace. Your patience is appreciated during this transition of the Justice Court. Thank you for your understanding on this matter. PLANNING COMMISSION TUESDAY, APRIL 20,2010 - 7:00 P.M. 1.
