Following the public council meeting, an executive session was opened to discuss the purchase, exchange, or lease of real properties. The August issue of The Pioneer Post announced the new program of the Weber Housing Authority for a down payment assistance program for income qualifying Weber County residents who want to secure permanent housing through home ownership. Persons whose household income ranges between $38,550 or less for one person to $75,700 for a family of eight may be able to qualify for $5,000 in assistance of a home purchase. The program requires the family to stay in the home for at least five years, at which time $4,000 of the assistance will be forgiven. The applicants must be first time home buyers and must be able to qualify for a fixed rate mortgage using FHA, VA or conventional financing, based on their credit history. They must use a minimum of $2,000 of their own money prior to closing. The home price must be within Weber County but outside of Ogden City, with the cost not to exceed $180,000. A required pre-purchase housing counseling program is provided to help potential buyers learn the basic responsibilities of home ownership. The Weber Housing Authority's mission is to assist moderate and low income families in the county who live outside Ogden in seeking and obtaining affordable, decent, safe and sanitary housing and to manage resources efficiently. It is to promote personal, economic, and social upward mobility to provide the opportunity to make the transition from subsidized to non-subsidized housing. The scheduled Evening of Music at the Park on August 21, 2010, was cancelled. We were again reminded of the UDOT West Davis Corridor EIS Team open houses on August 3, 4, and 5, where comments on possible alternatives is invited. The open house in our area was held August 4, 2010, at the Kanesville Elementary School, West Haven, Utah. The Senior Health Connection Newsletter for August 2010, explained the facts about cholesterol numbers, and gave suggestions for keeping it under control. The Weber County Organization for the Elderly sponsors Prime Time Travelers. Information on three activities was available. They are, Crazy for You, at the Pickleville Playhouse, August 27, 2010, the Fall Foliage tour on September 14, 2010, and an Afternoon Tea at the Grand American Hotel on October 12, 2010. All of them sound like great fun. Bits and Pieces Joe Deru was invited to display his wood turning bowls and other pieces at the Gallery at the Station, just off the Grand Lobby of Union Station, beginning August 6, 2010, along with two other exhibitors. A reception was held on that date. The exhibit ran through August 31. Lynette Deru, Master Gardner, at the request of the Ogden USU Horticultural Center, presented a talk Care of Trees, at the Farmers Market in Ogden on August 7, 2010. Tiffanie King, daughter of Nick and Dana Cazier, was a contestant for the Hooper Tomato Days Rodeo Queen for the Labor Day celebration. 146 |
