Show The Pioneer Post Volume XII Issue 1 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter January 2010 State cf the City by Keith H. Butler, Mayor It is hard to believe that we have completed our first decade as a city. We have accomplished many wonderful things, we have had good times and bad, we have grown and have stayed the same. We recently completed the annual independent audit, and again had a modest surplus. Our finances are doing well, and no tax increase is anticipated over the next year. We completed some tremendous projects this year. The Marriott Park Bowery and playground was reconstructed. With the assistance of Mr. Bowen on 17th Street, we acquired property for the eventual extension of the river parkway, we completed the Park at City Hall, and thanks to our wonderful community gardeners we have a beautiful municipal garden. We also enjoyed some great activities with our Easter Egg Hunt, July 4th Celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, and Breakfast with Santa. Next year we will have more projects. 400 North will be entirely reconstructed starting as early as March 1. This will be a major project and take about six months to complete. I appreciate your patience as this project will be a great inconvenience. I recognized some of our outstanding residents recently honored before the city council. The Good Neighbor Award was presented to Les & Becky Syme and Al & Ramona Farr. The H. Orvil Holley Youth Leadership Award was presented to Kylee Fuller being nominated by Dixie Holmes. The Elna Lucas Community History and Culture Award was presented to Jamie Weeks, Weber State University, for the university's work on our city history; to Daylynn Brandley for her work on the Music in the Park Program; and to Adele Lewis for her donation to the DUP Memorial Library at the municipal building. The Darrell Mecham Outstanding Community Service Award was presented to Karleen Warner for her service over the years in the senior lunch program; and to DeAnn Hufstetler for her service in community activities and Trunk-or-Treat. Thank you for all you do in making this community a great place to live. I look forward to this new year.
