Show Marriiott-Slaterville History May 2010 Mayor Butler reported very positive comments on all of the city parks, and commended Trent Meyerhoffer for a great job in coordinating the use and work on them Mr. Ilium reported that a lot of debris in Mill Creek catches in the trash trap, creating a mosquito problem when it makes a pond. The Nature Center should be reminded to clean it out. Problems with beaver dams on Mill Creek and lateral ditches was discussed. The Binghams are having problems with a plugged ditch south of their house on 1900 West, as reported by Mr. Hodson. The state is responsible for that ditch, as the water drains off 12*» Street. It was suggested that Mayor Butler call Kelly Hipwell with County Roads about the problem. At their monthly meeting, the Planning Commission approved the Mill Creek Animal Hospital at 250 North 2000 West, Mill Creek Plaza. The Hobby Show Kennel at 1811 North 400 West was approved, as well as the expansion of the rock crushing operation at 1900 West 1351 South. A pressurized irrigation system will be installed at the Marriott Park and the playground will be completed in the near future. The Intermountain Healthcare information given at the Senior Center in May concerned strokes. As every second counts in helpful treatment, it included knowing the signs of a stroke and instructed everyone to act in time. Signs of stroke symptoms can be remembered by the acronym F. A. S. T.: F- Face, A -Arm, S - Speech, and T - Time. A woman reported her purse was taken by a man at the Pilot gas station. He then fled in a white Dodge four-door vehicle, with the victim following him in her car. He may have known he was being followed, and he ditched his car in a field in our city. Sheriff deputies combed the field with police dogs, but were unable to find the thief. Lt. Matthew Bell said they had the man's car, and thought they could identify the man, and hoped to find him. Residents were invited to join the Venture Academy 5K Run/Walk Event on May 22, 2010. The course began at 2800 North and continued to the Slaterville Park. Proceeds will support the Venture Academy Adventure Program Scholarship Fund. Bits and Pieces Larry Chantland celebrated his SO*1 birthday with an open house held on May 15, 2010, at the Clifford and Elizabeth Blair Park at the City complex. Richard Evans, age 78, died May 30, 2010. We have great young people in our community. Some of those honored recently are: Aaron Hunsaker was awarded First Place Individual in Auto Technology for the Region. He represented Fremont High School. He also was awarded First Place Team in Auto Technology for the Region. Drew Holley and Ashley Farr were honored for their participation in the Wahlquist Junior High play. Mackenzie Hunsaker was on the High Honor Roll for Wahlquist Junior High for all terms, 2009-2010. Hannah Brandley, Logan George, Joshua Haas, Dallin Holley, Adam Lewis, Trevor Ralston, Jonathan Spencer, Zachary Spencer, and Kyle Stanger, were named on honor rolls of Fremont High School. 137 |
