Show Marriott-Slaterville History January 2010 A Public Hearing was held on January 19, 2010, by the Planning Commission. Public comment, in support of or opposition to, the ratification and adoption of the Official Zoning Map of Marriott-Slaterville City, Utah was invited. The map was prepared by Jones and Associates Consulting Engineers dated January 2010. At the January 21, 2010, Council Meeting, Ordinance 2010-01, concerning the Official Zoning Map for the city, was discussed. The original zoning map was adopted in 1999. Over the years numerous amendments to the map have been made, and may or may not have been properly designated. The City desires to zone the parks and certain other property, primarily governmental, as open space. The new map would also bring it into further compliance with the General Plan, to effectuate current zoning policies and practices. This resolution would ratify the Official Zoning Map. The Planning Commission reviewed this updated map and recommended approval. After discussion, the Ordinance was unanimously passed. Mayor Butler reported that the security camera system at the city office recently installed is working well. Councilman Kim Slater mentioned the city lost two wonderful residents in the last week, Julian Powell and Marilynne Slater. Councilman Scott VanLeeuwen said he and the Mayor visited with Julian Powell for four hours just days prior to his death, which was a wonderful experience for him. Councilman Hodson said that the picture of Mayor Butler at the ribbon cutting for the new IRS building (see 2009 History) was on the cover of the IRS newsletter which is distributed around the world. Sheriff Brad Slater announced on January 13, 2010, he will not run for re-election this year. He has served as sheriff for 13 years and has worked with the Weber County Sheriff's Office for 30 years. A rabies clinic was announced to be held January 9 and 30, and February 6 and 20, at the Weber County Animal Shelter, 1373 North 750 West. Rabies shots and dog licenses were available at the clinic. Marriott-Slaterville Night at the WSU Men's Basketball game was on January 22, 2010, beginning at 7:00 p.m. A discount voucher printed in The Pioneer Post, was good for half off any ticket price for up to six people. Bits and Pieces Alivia Pattillo, daughter of Jeremy and Lynette Pattillo, was born on January 30, 2010. Julian Morris Powell, life-long resident of Marriott and Slaterville, died on January 13, 2010, one week prior to his 99th birthday. He was the last full time farmer in Marriott-Slaterville. Marilynne Henrie Slater, 75, passed away on January 15,2010. She has lived here since her 1956 marriage to Keith W. Slater. She was the mother of Sheriff Brad Slater. Fellow Sheriff David A. Edmunds of Summit County, gave Sheriff Brad Slater high commendation for his service, in a letter published in the Standard Examiner on January 28, 2010. Helena Brown Watson, who began her teaching career at the Slaterville school, celebrated her 95ft birthday on January 30, 2010. She is fondly remembered by Orvil Holley, Wesley Spencer, and Elna Lucas, who were among her students that year.
