Show Accolades for Sheriff Brad Slater June 5, 2010 Sheriff Slater thanked for great service Next year there will be a new sheriff in town. The old one, Sheriff Brad Slater (he is not really old), has decided to retire after 12 years as the top law enforcement officer of Weber County. When I first met Sheriff Slater, I came away thinking I wouldn't mind being stuck with him on a small fishing boat. He has a great sense of humor, he's smart and there is not a scintilla of arrogance in him. Years ago, I heard him give a talk and I realized why he, at one time, had been a teacher and was so well thought of. He kept the audience spellbound. If you drop by Tiffany Memorial Cemetery in Ogden, you will see where his beloved K-9, Sam, is listed on a monument. Sam was Sheriff Slater's partner when he was a sergeant in charge of the K-9 unit. If you bring up Sam's name, he gets misty eyed, as Slater says Sam saved his life on more than one occasion. A few years ago, Sheriff Slater received the national humanitarian award from the Ogden chapter of the Footprinters Association. So, good sheriff, we bid you farewell and thank you for your great service to the citizens of Weber County. We wish you and your family a healthy and happy new chapter in your retirement.
