Show - Marriott-Slaterville City History May 2010 Money Business-it is that time of the year for the Mayor, City Council and Staff. Mayor Keith Butler has worked diligently on the budgets to keep expenses as low as possible, and stay within the income available. At the May 26, 2010, City Council Meeting, careful consideration on the adoption of FY 2010- 11, the tentative budget for Pioneer Special District, review of the amendment of the FY 2009-10 city Pbudget, and adoption of tentative FY 2010-11 city budget was given. After discussion, ail motions were passed unanimously. Public hearings on all three budget matters will be held on June 17, 2010. Funds for the Pioneer Special District are collected from users in the new subdivisions which are within the district. Operating the secondary water system is the primary expense. Thanks Mayor Butler for your work and wisdom on the budget, your thrift, and concern that we have no municipal property tax levy. The Pioneer Postfor May reported that although the recession continues to take its toll on state and local governments, the city is holding its own without imposing a property tax. The Central Weber Sewer District is raising its sewer fees on July 1, 2010, to $15.80 per residential unit. Questions on this increase should be directed to the Sewer District at 801-731-3011. Garbage rates during this budget cycle are not being raised, but fuel prices are being watched and rising prices could require action. Building rental rates have been increased for the senior center, but the cleaning deposit requirement is now eliminated for most private activities. Park rental rates remain unchanged. At the May Council Meeting, business licenses were approved for Broke Transport, 1751 W. 12th Street, a trucking company, which only parks trucks at this address until they go to the job site; Must Love Dogs, 1811 West 400 North, pet grooming, and Intermountain Security Systems, 1668 South 1100 West, #311, the home office for cable installation. Staker and Parsons Construction was awarded the bid for the 400 North reconstruction, with work to begin as soon as underground utilities are moved. A meeting was held concerning utilities in this area on May 26, 2010. The project must be completed 100 days after the construction begins or the company faces a fine. City Administrator Bill Morris expressed the belief that it will not be completed this year. In addition to the actual reconstruction, landscaping, with trees, is required, as well as street lights, sidewalk, curb, gutter, and a big storm detention basin next to the miniature golf course. CRS Construction, who will manage the project, will have a temporary on-site trailer office at the city's rear parking lot. The resurfacing of 1200 West may not begin until next year due to the construction delay on 400 North. The resurfacing will cost about $370,000. The 1200 West irrigation project will begin at the Marriott Park on Monday, May 28, 2010. The Slaterville Park is being rented out for the use of soccer teams. Advanced Paving will perform some pavement restoration on roads where severe problems exist. Council President Dennis Ilium said the road problem on 1700 West near the Pilot Gas Station needs to be dealt with due to the heavily-loaded trucks which come there. Mr. Morris gave a copy of the July 4<h Freedom Celebration assignment report which was reviewed and discussed. Council members will have the same jobs as last year. There will be help for the Council from the Sheriff's Department for the lunch. The spring dumpster clean-up program went well. The city paid the dumping fee. Councilman Delbert Hodson reported complaints that the dumpsters were always full when people tried to use them. Mr. Ilium suggested that residents be informed they can rent a dumpster for their own use. Extending the service time period would require changing the contract. 136 |
