Show turkey steak, country fried steak, fried chicken or ground beef, along with baked potato, salad and rolls was served. Dessert featured a choice of decorated brownies and cakes. Becky Burt, with some help from Trent Meyerhoffer and Ken Martin, was responsible for a fun evening. In addition to city sponsored activities, residents were invited to several events available in our city. They included the Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire, May 7-9,14-16; the Sleepy Mill Creek Hollow on October Fridays and Saturdays, the Third Annual Harvest 5K and Chili Cook-off sponsored by the First United Methodist Church, October 9, 2010, and a 5K run sponsored by Venture Academy on May 22, 2010. Water/Sewer and Other Services On February 18, 2010, Mayor Keith Butler recognized Trent Meyerhoffer for his obtaining his Storm Water Inspector Certificate from the State of Utah. The sewer rate is going up $1.50 per month instead of $3.80, because of Mayor Keith Butler's negotiation with the sewer district. The new rate will be $15.80 per month, starting July 1, 2010, with additional increases later. Bona Vista Water is doing a study on water rates to see if an increase is needed to keep up with the demands. Bona Vista provides meters to attach to the hydrants to insure proper payment by contractors using water from fire hydrants. Garbage rates during this budget cycle are not being raised, but fuel prices are being watched and rising prices could require action. The Weber-Morgan Health Department has a drug disposal lockbox in the lobby of the Municipal Building for the proper disposal of unused and outdated drugs we may have in our home. Councilman Scott VanLeeuwen reported that the Weber County Fire Station has two new ambulances that are now available. The November 2010 issue of The Pioneer Post reminded residents about the snow removal regulations, which restricts parking on public roads during and after a snow storm, which impedes snow plowing. The most traveled roads are plowed first, the least traveled, including subdivisions, are plowed last. Snow must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours following a snowstorm by home and business owners with sidewalks. Garbage cans should be removed from the road soon after collection. The city makes sure the fire hydrants remain clear of snow. The August issue of The Pioneer Post announced the new program of the Weber Housing Authority for a down payment assistance program for income qualifying Weber County residents who want to secure permanent housing through home ownership. Persons whose household income ranges between $38,550 or less for one person to $75,700 for a family of eight may be able to qualify for $5,000 in assistance of a home purchase. The program requires the family to stay in the home for at least five years, at which time $4,000 of the assistance will be forgiven. The applicants must be first time home buyers and must be able to qualify for a fixed rate mortgage using FHA, VA or conventional financing, based on their credit history. They must use a minimum of $2,000 of their own money prior to closing. The home must be within Weber County but outside of Ogden City, with the cost not to exceed $180,000. A required pre- purchase housing counseling program is provided to help potential buyers learn the basic responsibilities of home ownership. The Weber Housing Authority's mission is to assist moderate and low income families in the county who live outside Ogden, in seeking and obtaining affordable, decent, safe and sanitary housing and to manage resources efficiently. It is to promote personal, economic, and social upward mobility to provide the opportunity to make the transition from subsidized to non-subsidized housing. 16 |
