Show Obituaries 2010 Julian Morris Powell Julian (Juke) Morris Powell died January 13, 2010, one week prior to his 99th birthday. He was born January 20, 1911 to Thomas Ezra and Catherine Morris Powell. He 1 lived in Marriott for his first 38 years and has lived in Slaterville for the past 60 years. He married Venis Shaw on 1 January 6, 1934, in Blackfoot, Idaho. They and their family ' were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 3, 1950. Venis passed away on April 29, 2001. Julian attended elementary school in Marriott and graduated from Weber High School. He played on the Marriott Ward M- Men Basketball Team. They went to the All Church Tournament in Salt Lake City for eight consecutive years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and served as ward clerk; as a Seventy; was a counselor in two bishoprics and served as a home teacher for many years. Julian and Venis owned a most beautiful farm. He received recognition and awards for his farming abilities. He served as a Director on the South Slaterville Irrigation Company for 62 years. He also served on the Slaterville Planning Commission. He was a man of great faith, integrity, hard work, and endurance. His keen memory was a blessing and marvel to all. He was instrumental in implementing many improvements in the irrigation system and made great contributions to his community. He was a hard worker and through his work and efforts provided for his family and others. The family extends a special thanks to Stoney Brooke Assisted Living, Gentle Home Health Care, McKay Dee Nursing Staff, Dr. John Wood and IHC Hospice. Thanks also to his many friends who loved and visited him regularly. Julian was preceded in death by his wife, Venis, an infant son, Thomas Merrill Powell; his grandson, Kirk C. Widdison; son- in-law, Talmage W. Skeen; his mother and father and five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his children Lorna (Chad) Widdison, Joan Skeen, Sharon (Archie) Skeen, Kay (Virg) Howe, 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Marriott-Slaterville Ward Chapel, 250 North 1500 West, Marriott-Slaterville at 11 a.m. Friends may call on Monday, January 18th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. and again on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery. Marilynne Slater MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE - Marilynne Henrie Slater passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 at her home. She was born June 29, 1934 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Keith and Zen- na Henrie. , She moved to Ogden in her early years and attended Lewis Elementary and graduated from Ogden High School, attended Weber College and was chosen as the Snow Ball Queen by the Phoenix Men's Club annual Snow Ball Dance. Marilynne was a recipient of a kidney and pancreas transplant on May 4, 1988 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake. At that time she was the 17th and oldest patient to receive a double transplant at that hospital. She married Keith Wardle Slater on October 5, 1956 in Ogden and lived in Slaterville all her married life. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints serving as a primary teacher, Relief Society worker, organist and chorister. Marilynne volunteered at the Ogden Regional Medical Center, PTA, was an accompanist for Southern Pacific Men of Songs group and a substitute teacher at Pioneer Elementary School. She loved painting, ceramics, quilting, camping, shopping, calligraphy, and composing poetry. She taught piano for many years and enjoyed playing pranks on family and friends. Marilynne was a talented artist in both oil and water color, winning several awards at some of the local showings. She loved all kinds of music and was a child at heart. She is survived by her husband, children; Brad (Pamela) and Susan (Tori) Frandsen, all of Marriott-Slaterville; five grandchildren, Randee (Kasey) Scott, Kyley Slater, Kevin Slater, Stacee (Justin) Jolley, Kellie Slater; three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her inlaws; Gwen (Powell) Rhodes, Roy; Myrl (Kay) Slater, North Ogden; Doyle (Connie) Slater, La Grande, OR; John (Marsha) Slater, Hyrum She was preceded in death by her mother, father and one brother. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 11 am at the Marriott-Slaterville Ward, 250 North 1500 West, Marriott-Slaterville. Family and friends may call at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
