Show Marriott-Slaterville City History January 2010 Marriott-Slaterville City reached a milestone last July as we completed our first decade as an incorporated city! As we have watched, planned, worked, and improved our community, we are amazed at the things that have happened. Mayor Keith Butler reminds us, "We have accomplished many wonderful things, we have had good times and bad, we have grown and have stayed the same." As citizens of our community, we should be very grateful to be where we are, at the time we are, and look forward to the future. The January 2010 issue of The Pioneer Post, featured the State of the City by Mayor Keith Butler. He reported that the city came through the fiscal year with a modest surplus, at a time when many cities, states, and the nation are facing a great financial crises. Many projects were completed, including the reconstruction of the Marriott Park Bowery and the park at City Hall. The beautiful garden there is the result of untold volunteer hours by community gardeners. Property on 17* Street was acquired for eventual extension of the river parkway. Great activities such as the Easter Egg Hunt, the July 4fr> celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, and Breakfast with Santa were enjoyed by many. Several outstanding volunteers were honored in December for their community activities. More projects and activities are planned for the coming year. The reconstruction of 400 North will begin soon, and will require patience from residents and travelers. Mayor Butler is looking forward to great things in the next decade. At the January 21, 2010, City Council Meeting, the oath of office was administered to Mayor Keith Butler, Councilor Kim Slater, and Councilor Delbert Hodson, by Becky Burt, City Recorder, and a notary public. The Mayor and councilors were re-elected in the November 3, 2009, election. Dennis Ilium was elected as Council President and Scott VanLeeuwen as Vice-president by acclamation. Rob Smout, who has served as Vice-president of the Council for several years had asked to be excused from serving in that position for the coming year. President Ilium thanked Mr. Smout for his time serving as Vice-president. Several Scouts and their leaders in attendance were welcomed to the meeting by Councilman Rob Smout. Business licenses were approved for All Western Windows, 1160 West 17th Street, sells residential windows, and Blind Wholesaler, 1260 South 1200 West, #5, sells windows and window treatments. Mayor Butler said curb and gutter money for the building for All Western Windows, should be put in an escrow account to install these improvement when the weather improves. Council members completed a required disclosure statement, which was returned to the City Recorder for notarization. Randy Jeffries, UDOT, gave an update on the upcoming West Davis Corridor Study, for the purpose of environmental clearance on this project. He said the study to date does not show a need for the project to extend to Ogden Bay. This study goes only to 12*1. Street. The corridor would be completed by the year 2040. Councilman Delbert Hodson was concerned about having traffic congestion on 12*i Street. Conditional acceptance on Quail Meadows Subdivision was tabled until the next meeting, as not all items on the punch list have been completed. After discussion, the council approved Resolution 2010-A, which extends the Questar Franchise Agreement, for two five year terms for a total of 10 years, with a one time $50.00 fee to the city. 127 |
