Show Joe Deru featured in exhibit at the Gallery at the Station July 30, 2010 • Union Station opens two new exhibits on Aug. 6. Gallery at the Station, just off the Grand Lobby, hosts work by Mark Willard, Joe Deru and Carlisle. Carlisle, an artist from Salt Lake City who goes by just one name, is showing nonrepresentational abstract paintings. "I don't title my work, but reference paintings by outstanding color and size," said Carlisle. "I want people to look at it and let a connection come between them and the painting." By not giving images a title, she leaves possibilities for the viewers wide open. "I don't want to direct them in any way — emotionally or visually," she said. "I want it, hopefully, to make a connection with them just through the visual experience." Willard, of Brigham City, is exhibiting landscape paintings. Deru, of Marriott- Slaterville, creates bowls and sculptures by turning wood. Gallery 51, also in Union Station, is showcasing art by Weber State University students William Merritts and Kyle Wilcox. Reception, 6-8 p.m. next Friday at 2501 Wall Ave., Ogden. Both exhibits continue 10 a.m.-S p.m. Monday-Saturday, through Aug. 31. 801-393-9890. Free. 198 |
